SCOOP: Peter Forand, the left-wing DOJ official in the Southern District of Florida who was recently demoted after I exposed his donations to Kamala Harris, is now facing additional scrutiny in DC over suspected leaks to the press and potential past weaponization. Since the new @USAO_SDFL Jason Reding Quinones, a Trump ally, was confirmed in August, there has been a steady stream of leaks to Miami Herald reporter Jay Weaver, who is a friend of Forand’s. Shortly after his swearing in ceremony, Quinones opened a criminal investigation into the Crossfire Hurricane and Mar-A-Lago raid conspiracies, infuriating the deep staters and liberal career attorneys in the office. Weaver’s reporting began to feature various anonymous leaks about the case, apparently intended to undermine the investigation of crooked Obama and Biden officials, and make Quinones, @AGPamBondi, and President Trump look bad. Similarly, when Bondi fired far-left SDFL prosecutor Will Rosenzweig (who worked under Forand) for running a vicious anti-Trump blog in September, the details of his firing were quickly circulated through Jay Weaver in the Miami Herald, again using anonymous sources and liberal spin. The next week, Weaver published another hastily written article, this time about a closed hearing (attended by Forand) in one of the cases Rosenzweig had been prosecuting. Weaver’s story appeared designed to pressure the Judge into reversing his previous two rulings denying Forand a continuance after Rosenzweig’s firing. The story claimed: “U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi fired a federal prosecutor in Miami last week because he had posted critical blog commentary about Donald Trump during his first term as president — a poltically [sic] fraught decision that is threatening an upcoming trial.” I can confirm that conservative attorneys have also started to review the cases Forand brought in the last few years and noticed several troubling patterns. Trump supporters/donor and vocal critics of Biden were often the victims of overzealous prosecution, while leftists were either given sweetheart deals or never indicted in the first place for worse offenses. This is hardly a surprise, considering half of Jack Smith’s team was based out of SDFL. Another interesting pattern uncovered: in the immediate months after Javier Milei became president of Argentina in December 2023, Forand and his team brought legally dubious, first-of-a-kind criminal charges against several prominent Milei allies who live in Miami. In April 2024 Argentinian-American businessman and Milei ally Paul Morani was accused of operating a money transmitting business without the appropriate license. His eventual conviction was based on the now-repealed Argentine currency controls that were widely condemned as corrupt and contrary to U.S. interests. In a first-of-a-kind criminal prosecution for what would typically be a civil case, Forand sought to extradite Morani’s wife from Argentina. A different Argentinian-American Milei ally who owned a medical equipment company in Miami (which also happened to make “Let’s Go Brandon” masks) found himself charged with Medicare fraud despite never actually taking Medicare money, in another first-of-a-kind criminal prosecution. It’s very fortunate Forand was removed from the Crossfire Hurricane and Mar-A-Lago raid conspiracy investigations last month. Per Trump’s Executive Order 14147 (Ending the Weaponization of the Federal Government) @TheJusticeDept should now review Forand’s record for weaponization as head of the SDFL criminal division.
