Regarding my colleague Dr Steve Hatfill- A senior department official for HHS told The New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/28/us/politics/hatfill-covid-hhs-ousted.html) that Hatfill was fired for misrepresenting himself as “chief medical officer for the assistant secretary for preparedness and response.” All indications are that Hatfill was terminated for cause with a face saving offer to resign within 24h which he did not take. The COS took the action. As is his job. The administration cannot comment on reason for termination. The person terminated has essentially gone to the press with a series of face saving stories designed to do damage to those who he imagines were responsible. That is the true, fact based narrative. It is time to seriously consider restructuring the pharmaceutical vaccine industry as a public utility. --- The State, through its various agencies and regulatory practices has created and supported vaccine monopolies. --- The State has shielded the manufacturers from legal liability for their products --- The State directly purchases and distributes a large fraction of the vaccine products --- The State funds new vaccine development. --- The State funds vaccine manufacturing facilities --- So why not cut out the middlemen? The issue is not pro or anti vaccine. That is a false dichotomy. The issues are whether the total benefits greatly exceed the total risks, and whether or not there is such a large public threat that bypassing individual medical autonomy by the State is justifiable.
