Did you know that the word “happy 😊” is used three times more often than the word “sad🙁”? It seems positivity shines through in our language! And, there was no word for the color orange until about 450 years ago. Plus, orange, purple, and silver are all words (and colors) that don’t rhyme1. Isn’t language fascinating? 🍊🌈

Grammar Tip
🔆 Percentage, proportion, number and amount are the most common terms used to describe the quantities shown in graphs and charts in Academic Writing Task 1.
🔹The percentage of people who read print books decreased.
🔹The proportion of people who read e-books was larger/smaller in 2013 than in 2012.
🔹The number of people who prefer e-books increased.
🔹Teenagers spend a smaller amount on books than older people.
☝️ For number you must have a plural, countable noun following. Remember also that amount should be used for uncountable nouns.

I don't even trust English anymore, why is it that 'give her her book' is correct and 'give him him book' is wrong?

🗣️ Phrase: “You do you”
Meaning: Do what feels right for you; I won’t judge your choice.
Examples:
• If that makes you happy, you do you.
• I wouldn’t do it, but you do you.
• Everyone is different — you do you.
