Digital ID Country Status: UNITED KINGDOM Electronic ID: Yes - One Login Digital Wallet: Britcard (currently only as a veteran card with broader role out pending) Mandatory requirement?: Currently by 2029 for the right to work. Company Directors from 18th November 2025. Biometric Backing: Facial Recognition. Standard: eIDAS Compatible (W3C VC) Timeline: Starmer announced work requirement for digital ID in 2025. Driving licence verification suggested for late 2025. Currently all central govt depts must accept Digital ID by end of 2027. The Gov.UK One Login is already live for govt sites and will later be offered to third parties (banks, social media) in order to verify identity on demand.
