A quipu (khipu) was a knotted‑cord system used by the Inca and other Andean peoples to record numbers, dates and accounts without alphabetic writing. Using colored strings and different knot types, quipu encoded precise numerical data and may also have represented narrative or mnemonic information. They are not used as a formal record‑keeping system today, though some cultural knowledge and use of knotted cords persists locally and researchers continue to study them. On November 2, 1930 Ras Tafari Makonnen was crowned Emperor Haile Selassie. Celebrated abroad as a symbol of African independence, his decades in power included policies and actions that persecuted Harari people, forcing many from their homes. He was exiled during Italy’s invasion, returned to restore Ethiopian sovereignty, he was ultimately removed and murdered by a military coup in 1974 amid famine, repression, and widespread suffering. Eritrea later won independence in 1993. The Rastafari movement regards him as a messianic figure. [read more here] @googlefactss #history #HumanRights #Ethiopia
