NEW: SBU says a Russian Il-38N maritime reconnaissance aircraft was struck before the submarine blast in Novorossiysk. According to the SBU, the aircraft was hit at the Yeysk airbase during preparations for the strike. It was used for maritime surveillance, submarine detection, and countering SBU naval drones. The plane is estimated to be worth $24 million.

The Department of Justice has officially released nearly 30,000 more pages of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Some of these documents contain untrue and sensationalist claims made against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI right before the 2020 election. To be clear: the claims are unfounded and false, and if they had a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponized against President Trump already. Nevertheless, out of our commitment to the law and transparency, the DOJ is releasing these documents with the legally required protections for Epstein’s victims.

Azerbaijan has said it would be difficult for the country to participate at this stage in an international force planned to maintain security in the Gaza Strip. Hikmet Hajiyev, an aide to the Azerbaijani President, said on December 22 that the United States had asked Azerbaijan to join the force, but no final decision had been made. He said a UN Security Council resolution on the plan does not clearly define rules of engagement, operational methods, or the scope of the mission.
