πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈβŒπŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ US House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee passes first round of bill that would sanction South African officials A Bill that would require the Trump administration to conduct a full review of US-South Africa relations and to identify South African government and ANC leaders eligible for sanctions, passed the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee this week. The committee passed the β€œUS-South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act of 2025” by a vote of 34-16, with 28 Republicans and six Democrats supporting it and only Democrats opposing. It will now go to the full House of Representatives, where observers believe it will pass. It envisages SA government and ANC leaders being sanctioned under America’s Global Magnitsky Act, which imposes financial and visa restrictions on individuals deemed guilty of human rights abuses or corruption. The Bill would also require the US Administration to determine if South Africa has undermined US national security or foreign policy interests. @SouthAfricaReports

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ South Africa seeks extension of Trump tariff deadline to pursue trade deal South Africa has asked for more time to negotiate a trade deal with U.S. President Donald Trump's administration before his higher tariff regime goes into effect on July 9, Pretoria's trade ministry said on Tuesday. South Africa aims to secure a trade deal that would exempt some of its key exports from the tariffs, including autos, auto parts, steel, and aluminium. It has offered to buy liquefied natural gas from the United States in exchange. It is also seeking a maximum tariff application of 10% as a worst-case scenario, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition said in a statement. @SouthAfricaReports

🟧 Joost Strydom on X: Update from Orania, South-Africa The US Government just told an Afrikaner-delegation that the following four preconditions must be met before any normalization of bilateral relations between the United States and South Africa can happen. 1. Farm attacks and farm murders be classified as priority crimes 2. ANC publicly distances itself from and condemns "Kill the Boer" and "Kill the farmer" 3. Expropriation of any property only takes place subject to fair compensation and only after all legal processes have been exhausted 4. American companies be exempted from black economic empowerment legislation As an Afrikaner in Orania, I ask; What about adding a fifth condition; namely that the accord on Afrikaner Self-determination that the government signed in the 1990’s, and codified in article 235 of the South African constitution be honored? Is that not a good long term solution for stability, and prosperity? πŸ“Ž Joost Strydom

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸš€ Musk wants to launch rockets from the Western Cape South African born billionaire Elon Musk, who is currently feuding with US President Donald Trump, wants to launch SpaceX rockets and possibly Starlink low earth orbit satellites (LEOs) from South Africa. In the closed door meeting at the White House after the explosive public clash between Trump and the South Africans, Musk raised two key interests in South Africa – launching rockets from the Denel Overberg Test Range near Arniston, and the current shortage of magnets that require rare earths that China is restricting from being exported. SpaceX is interested in the Overberg site to launch satellites that would cross the south pole, and for Starlink LEOs that provide access to broadband, two sources in the South African space sector said. The site, the brainchild of the Aerospace Systems Research Institute (ASRI) led by Prof. Michael Brooks at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, was officially launched in May last year, and in December it launched two suborbital rockets. The institute’s primary focus is on developing an indigenous commercial space launch capability for South Africa. More than 30 significant space companies and start-ups are based in South Africa. They collaborate with the South African National Space Agency (SANSA). https://www.biznews.com/thought-leaders/musk-wants-launch-rockets-arniston-w-cape-matisonn?sfnsn=scwspwa
