A man who posed as a registered nurse, earning more than £170,000 from his fraudulent activity, has been jailed for more than three years. Ashton Guramatunhu appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday, where he was sentenced to 40 months in prison. Guramatunhu, 46, of Middlepark Road, Dudley, had pleaded guilty to one count of fraud by false representation at an earlier hearing. The court heard how in late 2014, Guramatunhu registered with a nursing agency in Warrington using the identity of a registered nurse to gain employment. He went on to work at six nursing homes in the northeast of England between 1 January 2015 and 5 April 2019, earning an estimated £172,921 through his fraudulent activity, Cheshire Police said.

A person has been hit by a car and killed in a 'gang-related targeted attack' outside a London magistrates' court. Police, an ambulance and the fire brigade rushed to the scene of the multi-car collision outside Willesden Magistrates' Court, north-west London on Wednesday afternoon. Multiple children have been injured after a school bus roof was ripped off when the vehicle ploughed into a low bridge. Emergency services rushed to Coppull, Lancashire after the bus struck a bridge. A number of children who were riding the bus are currently being assessed by paramedics. Police and firefighters were also called to the scene, where pictures showed the roof of the vehicle behind the bridge, while the bus remained stuck underneath.

A young woman has died after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run in Glasgow. The crash happened at around 8:45pm on Tuesday, December 2, at a crossing island near to Burger King and Starbucks on Castlebank Street at Glasgow Harbour.

The Women's Institute is to stop accepting transgender women from April next year. The decision has been taken 'with the utmost regret and sadness', the 110-year-old organisation said, adding that it retains the 'firm belief that transgender women are women'. NFWI chief executive Melissa Green said: 'It is with the utmost regret and sadness that we must announce that from April 2026 we can no longer offer formal membership to transgender women. 'As an organisation that has proudly welcomed transgender women into our membership for more than 40 years, this is not something we would do unless we felt that we had no other choice. 'To be able to continue operating as the Women's Institute, a legally recognised women's organisation and charity, we must act in accordance with the Supreme Court's judgment and restrict formal membership to biological women only. 'However, this change is only in respect to our membership policy and does not change our firm belief that transgender women are women.'

A nursery worker has pleaded guilty to 26 serious sexual offences against children following one of the Metropolitan Police's most harrowing and complex child sexual abuse investigations. Vincent Chan, 45, of Finchley, worked at a nursery in north London between 2017 and 2024. The offences include five counts of sexual assault of a child by penetration, four counts of sexual assault of a child by touching, 11 counts of taking indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child, and six counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child.
