WhatsUp: Neger Be Misale, Tej Be Birille September in Ethiopia marks the new year—a time of celebration, family, and tradition. Among these, tej (honey wine) and its signature glass, the birille, shine as symbols of heritage. The exhibition “Neger Be Misale, Tej Be Birille” at the historic Yimtubezina Museum showcased historian Ian Campbell’s remarkable collection of birilles, including pieces once owned by royalty. The British Council, in collaboration with the British Embassy and NZ Communications, will host a live music event featuring the Sassenach Band from the United Kingdom, known for their Celtic-inspired sound, alongside Ethiopian artist Teref Kassahun (Kiya).
