In my experience, certain teachings can be easily (ab)used for spiritual bypassing if one doesn't have a strong psychological foundation or comes across them "too early" on their path, and the soul is not ready yet to absorb or comprehend it. For example, Sri Aurobindo's Integral Yoga took me over a decade to work with more consciously beyond intellectual/philosophical infatuation. I also needed a strong psychological foundation working with Western psychological practices, such as Jungian shadow work, childhood wounding (Parts work), embodiment practices, and somatic Trauma work. The same goes for Rudolf Steiner, Gurdjieff, and even David Hawkins' work. They can all easily be used for Spiritual Bypassing. I've seen it with many people, mainly if they use one specific teaching as the sole foundation and lens to view everything through. It can quickly create dogma out of the teaching and tunnel vision. I see it in some people following the teachers above exclusively. Ironically, Sri Aurobindo warned of this dogma and of taking any sutra (scripture/teaching) as the sole foundation. He pointed out that truth is "fluid" and expresses itself in many ways, adjusting to different times and ages. The same goes for Jungian shadow work. It can be abused if taken as the sole foundation, and it can be easily intellectualized instead of doing the inner work of facing one's shadow, which is challenging. Head-centric intellectual types easily engage in the "intellectual bypass" and don't do the work on a somatic/emotional level. The point here is that no one teaching is "better" or "worse." Yes, some are distorted, even more corrupted than others (New Age carnival), but any teaching comes to the student when he/she is ready based on what they need to learn on their level of consciousness and soul lessons. Everyone's path is unique. The most crucial part is the sincere intention, which will open the guidance, yet there is also temptation and detours when the ego tries to hijack the process. The biggest blind spot in many truthers is their fixed views of how an awakening "should" happen, what any given person in public or positions in power "should" talk about or expose based on their subjective preferences as if they know God's plan and Divine Will. For example, If [insert public figure] doesn't address [insert preferred truther topic] or if they have specific associations with [insert person, group] (which, btw, is most often a guilt-by-association fallacy), then this person is no good, a shill, Controlled op, etc. It's quite an arrogant and ignorant stance based on very over-simplified black-and-white thinking. It's especially easy to say these things from the comfort of sitting behind the screen without contributing any productive solutions. I know it is because I've done just the same for many years. Three examples when I used to do it: - Starting at 9/11, 2001, and for years after it, I painted anyone who didn't question 9/11 or didn't bring it up as a shill, matrix agent, or controlled op. - For over a decade (2001 - 2014), I disregarded anyone who had any perceived ties to Israel, was pro-Israel, hanging out with Zionist Jews, or was not "exposing" Zionism. - In my childish anarchist non-statist days full of pride and arrogance, I discounted government as a whole. I saw anyone who was a statist, voting, or working in government as a "matrix agent" who couldn't be taken seriously. All these over-simplified black-and-white projections of "good" and "evil" and what I "thought" needed to be "exposed" based on my limited perception slowly but surely disintegrated in the fire of the inner work. It resulted in acknowledging that God knows better than I do in the context of the evolution of consciousness and that actual change starts within, first and foremost. I also realized that "evil" must be faced within and not just projected externally, for All is One. As within, so without Something to reflect on: "We are powerless because we do not see. To see, and to see totally, necessarily means to have power. But the Divine power does not obey our logic or morality. It sees far into space and time, and it does not try to do away with evil in order to save the good, nor does it work through miracles; it frees the good that is within the evil, applying its force and light on the dark half so it consents to its luminous counterpart. Wherever it is applied, the immediate effect is to touch off a crisis; that is, to place the shadow in front of its own light. It is a stupendous evolutionary ferment.” - Satprem
