✞And he labored for the service followed by wild beasts day and night. The Saint used to consume a moldy cabbage and water that had changed its color because of his strict austerity for the sustenance of his body.✞One day, our Savior, Christ, appeared and blessed him. And he anointed his body with His holy spittle. And at that moment, the Saint was filled with the Holy Spirit. And contemplating the passions of Christ, Abune Samuel used to prostrate thousands of times a day and lashed his back.   ✞And he also fought by tying a chain to his legs. And with these deeds, he humiliated the demons and delighted his Creator. And after a while, Waldiba was filled with monks and disciples became numerous. And from the disciples Abba ZeRufael takes precedence. ✞Abune Samuel had a great love for our Lady. And he used to pray her Theotokia and Anaphora, and he used to praise her wholeheartedly. And while he did this, he used to rise a cubits length from the ground and hover.  ✞And when his disciples were hungered, he used to turn water into white bread with the Anaphora of St. Mary. As the scholar has said, “While he blessed the water praying your anaphora Samuel the bloom of faith changed it to bread, he of the desert of Waldiba So that I speak the mercy and judgment of your miracle Have my sins forgiven and lessen my trouble Since Mary you can see to all” (Mahlete Tsege) ✞And the Mother of Light for his love gave him a white gem, nourished him from a heavenly bread, and gifted him a heavenly incense.  And the Saint censed with the Heavenly Priest for 12 years. And while the Virgin Mary had said to him, “I will intercede for him who like you recites the Theotokia and Anaphora (of St. Mary)” the Lord on the other hand blessed his monastery, Waldiba. The Lord had previously blessed the monastery during His flight to Egypt as well. As the accounts of the Saint are numerous, let us stop here for today. The Star of Waldiba, Abune Samuel passed away on this day, Tahisas 12 (December 21) in the year 1395 E.C. He was a 100 years old. ✞Honor is due for the Righteous. ✞✞✞Saints Anicetus and Photinus of Nicomedia✞✞✞ =>These Saints were brothers and the fruits of the Era of Persecution. When I think of their chronicle, it amazes me (the author). In their fiery age, their youth, preserved in faith, the love of Christ blazed upon them. ✞Loving Christ wholeheartedly and not just with the lips is truly what a fortune! The person who loves Christ will also have the love of His Virgin Mother and His beloved saints abundantly but not lessen in love. ✞The Saints Anicetus and Photinus, not being deceived by the life of the world, prepared themselves for martyrdom. And while different types of tortures that could even scare away wild beasts awaited them in line, they were not frightened. ✞First, the persecutors brought forth Anicetus. Then, they lashed him but he was not harmed. They burned him but he was not scorched. And then, they gave him to lions but they prostrated before him. Hence, Photinus, his brother, who was observing the scenes from the side, jumped into the arena of torments.  ✞He then shouted out, “My brother is Christ’s; you won’t be triumphant over him.” And at that instant, many of the gentiles that were gathered there said, “The God of these youths is our God.” And the official in charge had the 2 Saints with many of [the converted] people beheaded. ✞And a sinner like I, shall pray in their name as follows. “I say salutations to the followers of Anicetus Who completed in fire their contest and race Aid me to reach the chants of the angelic hosts So that a destitute youth like me, poor of cognizance Can beat the drums like the virgins” (Arke) ✞✞✞May the God of Samuel keep our country from war and its people from flight by his intercession. And may He not deprive us from the Saints’ overflowing blessings.

Memhir Esuendale: #Feasts of #Tahisas_12 ✞✞✞On this day we commemorate the Departure of the Great Saint Abune Samuel of Waldiba and the Martyrs Anicetus and Photinus✞✞✞ ✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞ ✞✞✞ Abune Samuel of Waldiba ✞✞✞ =>Our country has bore myriads of saints. Not only in those past days that were blessed but today also we have many fathers and mothers that live in the deserts and caves who pray not only for the country but for the world.    ✞And from the saints that rose in Ethiopia the “Samuels” have a unique place. In a time span of merely 20 years, the 6 Samuels came to be and showed the good path from a life of sanctity to evangelization, from the monastic life to asceticism. And these Saints were: 1. Samuel of Waldiba 2. Samuel of Tareta 3. Samuel of Qoyetsa 4. Samuel of Gish 5. Samuel of Hallelujah and 6. Samuel of Wegeg ✞Similarly, in Egypt, including the Star of Qalamun (the one who interceded for an angel named Qewestos before God) there have risen many Samuels. Our mothers, in the past, were proficient in giving names as Samuel means, “God has heard me”. ✞Coming back to what we have started, the Great Ethiopian Saint Abune Samuel was born in the 13th century (in 1295 E.C) in the city of Axum. His parents were called Estifanos (Stephen) and Amete Maryam. ✞Since the Saint’s lineage was from a priestly family, he studied the mysteries of the faith in his childhood. And it seems like that was the reason why he wanted to become an ascetic while he was just a teen. ✞Samuel, who obeyed and served his parents from his infancy, when he completed his education went to Debre Benkol. It is said that at the time, when he left for Debre Benkol, the Saint’s parents had departed. Debre Benkol is the monastery of Abune Medhanine Egzi the Great Star who was a father to the monks. ✞While Medhanine Egzi labored to become a luminary for the country; God gave him the 7 Stars. And from these, Abune Samuel takes precedence. And the rest included the fathers like Abune Yasay of Mandaba, Samuel of Tareta, Samuel of Qoyetsa and Yafekerene Egzi of Guguben. ✞Abune Samule with his 6 companions started his strife at Debre Benkol. He fetched water, grinded legumes, was obedient with his whole heart and side by side he studied patience, humility, austerity and the rites of a monastery from the Holy Abbot Abba Medhanine Egzi. ✞And because of his loved service, he pleased all. And at that moment, the Righteous Abbot brought forth Abune Samuel of Wali and the 6 Fathers to be tonsured as monks. And saying, “Axios - You deserve it!” he elevated them from being novices to monks. ✞And as light had descended and was seen when the 7 were being tonsured, they were called “Luminary Stars”. And they served there in the monastery for some time. However, because the relatives of Abune Samuel used to come and made things hard for the Righteous, all 7 Saints conversed and after being blessed by their father, Medhanine Egzi, left Debre Benkol. ✞Hence, all went to where the Holy Spirit guided them. The 3 (Samuel of Wali, Yasay of Mandaba and Yafekrene Egzi of Guguben) went to Lake Tana. And there, after staying together for some time, they separated for ministry. While Abune Yasay stayed at Mandaba and Abune Yafekrene Egzi at Guguben, islands in Lake Tana, Abba Samuel went to Waldiba. ✞Waldiba was established in the 5th century by the will of the Lord by 860 Saints. Nonetheless, because the founding Saints had become spirit-borne anchorites (sowah) the area was considered as a wilderness thus Abune Samuel re-established it. ✞The Saint, before he started his last austere strife, ministered the Gospel greatly. And after that, he made his dwelling with wild beasts. And as it can be seen in his icon, he rode a lion for years.

✝✞✝ ታኅሣሥ 12  ✝✞✝ ✝✞✝ እንኩዋን ለታላቁ ጻድቅ "አቡነ ሳሙኤል ዘዋልድባ" እና ለሰማዕታት "አንቂጦስ ወፎጢኖስ" ዓመታዊ የዕረፍት በዓል በሰላም አደረሳችሁ ✝✞✝ +*" አባ ሳሙኤል ዘዋሊ "*+ =>ሃገራችን እልፍ አእላፍ ቅዱሳንን አፍርታለች:: እንኩዋን በተባረከው በቀደመው ዘመን ይቅርና ዛሬም ከሃገር ተርፈው ለዓለም የሚጸልዩ : በየበርሃውና በየፈርኩታው የወደቁ ብዙ አባቶችና እናቶች አሉን:: +በኢትዮዽያ ውስጥ ከተነሱ ቅዱሳን "ሳሙኤሎች" ልዩ ቦታ አላቸው:: በ20 ዓመታት ልዩነት ብቻ 6ቱ ሳሙኤሎች ተነስተው ከቅድስና ሕይወት እስከ ስብከተ ወንጌል : ከገዳማዊ ሕይወት እስከ ምናኔ በጐውን ጐዳና አሳይተዋል:: +እነዚህም:- 1.ሳሙኤል ዘዋልድባ 2.ሳሙኤል ዘጣሬጣ 3.ሳሙኤል ዘቆየጻ 4.ሳሙኤል ዘግሺ 5.ሳሙኤል ዘሃሌ ሉያ እና 6.ሳሙኤል ዘደብረ ወገግ ናቸው:: +በተመሳሳይም በግብጽ የደብረ ቀልሞኑን ኮከብ ጨምሮ (መልአኩን ቀውስጦስን ከጌታ ያማለዱት) ብዙ ሳሙኤሎች ተነስተዋል:: የድሮ እናቶቻችን በእውነት ስም መሰየሙን ይችሉበታል:: "ሳሙኤል" ማለት "ሰምዓኒ እግዚአብሔር ስዕለትየ - እግዚአብሔር ልመናየን ሰማኝ" ማለት ነውና:: +ወደ ቀደመ ነገራችን እንመለስና ታላቁ ኢትዮዽያዊ ጻድቅ አቡነ ሳሙኤል ዘዋሊ የተወለዱት በ13ኛው መቶ ክ/ዘመን (በ1295) በምድረ አክሱም ነው:: ወላጆቻቸውም እስጢፋኖስና ዓመተ ማርያም ይባላሉ:: +የዘር ሐረጋቸው ከካህናት ወገን ነውና ጻድቁ ገና በልጅነት ምሥጢራተ ሃይማኖትን ጠጥተዋል:: ለዚህም ይመስላል ገና ሕጻን ሳሉ ምናኔን የተመኙት:: +ከልጅነታቸው ጀምረው ወላጆቻቸውን ያገለገሉት ሳሙኤል ትምሕርታቸውን ሲፈጽሙ የተጉዋዙት ወደ ደብረ በንኮል ነበር:: በጊዜውም የጻድቁ ወላጆች ዐርፈው እንደ ነበር ይነገራል:: ደብረ በንኮል ማለት የታላቁ ኮከብና አበ መነኮሳት አቡነ መድኃኒነ እግዚእ ገዳም ነው:: +መድኃኒነ እግዚእ ለሃገር ብርሃን የሆኑ ቅዱሳንን ያፈሩ ዘንድ ሲተጉ እግዚአብሔር 7ቱን ከዋክብት ሰጣቸው:: ክእነዚህ መካከልም ቀዳሚው አቡነ ሳሙኤል ናቸው:: ቀሪዎቹ ደግሞ እነ አቡነ ያሳይ ዘመንዳባ : ሳሙኤል ዘጣሬጣ : ሳሙኤል ዘቆየጻና ያፍቅረነ እግዚእ ዘጉጉቤን የመሰሉ ናቸው:: +አቡነ ሳሙኤል ከ6ቱ ባልንጀሮቻቸው ጋር ሆነው በደብረ በንኮል ተጋድሎን አሐዱ አሉ:: እንጨት ይሰብራሉ:: ውሃ ይቀዳሉ:: እህል ይፈጫሉ:: በፍጹም ልባቸውም ይታዘዛሉ:: ጐን ለጐን ደግሞ ከቅዱሱ አበ ምኔት መድኃኒነ እግዚእ ጽንዓትን : ትሕትናን : ትሕርምትን ይማሩ : ሥርዓተ ገዳምንም ያጠኑ ነበር:: +ከአገልግሎታቸው ማማር የተነሳ ሁሉን ደስ ማሰኘት ቻሉ:: በዚህ ጊዜም ጻድቁ አበ ምኔት አቡነ ሳሙኤል ዘዋሊንና 6ቱን አበው ጠርተው ለምንኩስና አቀረቧቸው:: "ይገባቹሃል!" ሲሉም ከአሞክሮ ወደ ምንኩስና አሸጋገሯቸው:: +በዚያች ቀን 7ቱ ሲመነኩሱ ከሰማይ ብርሃን ወርዶ በመታየቱ ቅዱሳኑ "ከዋክብት ብሩሃን" ተባሉ:: ለተወሰነ ጊዜም በዚያው በገዳሙ አገለገሉ:: የአቡነ ሳሙኤል ዘመዶች ግን እየመጡ ጻድቁን ስላስቸገሩ 7ቱም ቅዱሳን ተመካክረው : ከአባታቸው መድኃኒነ እግዚእ ተባርከው ከደብረ በንኮል ወጡ:: +ሁሉም መንፈስ ቅዱስ ወደ መራቸው ሲሔዱ 3ቱ (ማለትም ሳሙኤል ዘዋሊ : ያሳይ ዘመንዳባና ያፍቅረነ እግዚእ ዘጉጉቤ) ወደ ጣና ሔዱ:: በዚያም ለጥቂት ጊዜ አብረው ከቆዩ በሁዋላ ለአገልግሎት ተለያዩ:: አቡነ ያሳይ "መንዳባን" : አቡነ ያፍቅረነ እግዚእ "ጉጉቤን" ይዘው እዛው ጣና አካባቢ ሲቀሩ አባ ሳሙኤል ወደ ዋልድባ ሔዱ:: +ዋልድባ በ5ኛው መቶ ክ/ዘመን በጌታ ፈቃድ የተመሠረተ ሲሆን 860ው መሥራች ቅዱሳን በመሠወራቸው እንደ ጠፍ ይቆጠር ነበርና አቡነ ሳሙኤል እንደ ገና አቀኑት:: +ጻድቁ በዋልድባ የመጨረሻውን ትሕርምት ከመያዛቸው በፊት በጊዜው ከፍተኛ የሆነ የወንጌል አገልግሎት ሰጥተዋል:: ቀጥለውም ኑሯቸውን ከግሩማን አራዊት ጋር አድርገዋል:: በስዕለ አድኅኖው እንደምናየው ለዘመናት በአንበሳ ጀርባ ላይ ተጭነዋል:: +ጧት ማታም ብዙ ግሩማን አራዊትን እያስከተሉ ለአገልግሎት ደክመዋል:: ጻድቁ ከትሕርምት ብዛት እህል ትተው የሻገተ ጐመንና መልኩን የለወጠ ውሃን ለቁመተ ሥጋ ይጠቀሙ ነበር:: +አንድ ቀንም መድኃኒታችን ክርስቶስ ወደ እርሳቸው መጥቶ ባረካቸው:: አካላቸውንም በቅዱስ ምራቁ አትቦ ቀባቸው:: በዚህ ጊዜም ኃይለ መንፈስ ቅዱስን ተመሉ:: የክርስቶስን ሕማማት እያሰቡም እልፍ ጊዜ ይሰግዱ: ጀርባቸውን ይገርፉም ነበር:: +እግራቸውን በሰንሰለት አሥረው ይጋደሉም ነበር:: በዚህ ግብራቸው አጋንንትን አሳፍረው: ፈጣሪያቸውን ደስ አሰኙ:: ከቆይታ በሁዋላም ዋልድባ በመነኮሳት ተሞላ:: ደቀ መዛሙርት በዙ:: ቀዳሚው ግን አባ ዘሩፋኤል ጻድቅ ነው:: +አቡነ ሳሙኤል ከድንግል እመቤታችን ጋር ልዩ ፍቅር ነበራቸው:: ዘወትር ውዳሴዋንና ቅዳሴዋን በተመስጦ ያደርሱላት: ፈጽመውም ያመሰግኗት ነበር:: ይህንን ሲያደርጉ ከመሬት ክንድ ከፍ ብለው ይንሳፈፉ ነበር:: +ተከታዮቻቸው ሲርባቸውም ውሃውን በቅዳሴ ማርያም ነጭ ሕብስት ያደርጉት ነበር:: "ሶበ አተቦ ለማይ በቅዳሴኪ እንዘ ይጼሊ:: ረሰዮ ሕብስተ ሳሙኤል ጽጌ ሃይማኖት ዘሐቅለ ዋሊ:: ምሕረተ ወፍትሐ ለተአምርኪ እኅሊ:: ስረዪ ኃጢአትየ ወዕጸብየ አቅልሊ:: እስመ ኩሎ ገቢረ ማርያም ትክሊ::" እንዳለ ሊቁ:: (ማኅሌተ ጽጌ) +እመ ብርሃንም ስለ ፍቅር ነጭ እንቁ ሰጠቻቸው:: ሰማያዊ ሕብስትን መገበቻቸው:: ንጹሕ ዕጣንንም አበረከተችላቸው:: ለ12 ዓመታትም ከሰማይ ካህናት ጋር አጠኑ:: ድንግል ማርያም "እንዳንተ ውዳሴየንና ቅዳሴየን በፍቅር የሚደግምልኝን አማልደዋለሁ" ስትላቸው:- +ጌታ ደግሞ ገዳማቸውን ዋልድባን ቀድሷታል:: ቀድሞም በስደቱ ባርኩዋት ነበር:: የጻድቁ ዜና ፈጽሞ ብዙ ነውና ለዛሬ በዚህ ይብቃን:: የዋልድባው ኮከብ አቡነ ሳሙኤል ያረፉት ታሕሳስ 12 ቀን በ1395 ሲሆን ዕድሜአቸውም 100 ዓመት ነበር:: << ለጻድቁ ክብር ይገባል !! >> +"+ ቅዱሳን አንቂጦስ ወፎጢኖስ +"+ =>እነዚህ ቅዱሳን በሥጋ ወንድማማቾች ሲሆኑ የዘመነ ሰማዕታት ፍሬዎች ናቸው:: ዜና ሕይወታቸውን ሳስበው ይገርመኛል:: በእሳት የወጣትነት ዘመናቸው በሃይማኖት ጸንተው: ፍቅረ ክርስቶስ እንደ እሳት በላያቸው ላይ ይነድ ነበር:: +በእውነት ክርስቶስን በከንፈር ያይደለ በፍጹም ልቡና መውደድ እንዴት ያለ መታደል ነው! ክርስቶስን የወደደ የድንግል እናቱና የቅዱሳን ወዳጆቹ ፍቅር ይበዛለታል እንጂ አይቀንስበትም:: +ቅዱሳኑ አንቂጦስና ፎጢኖስ ወጣትነት: የዓለም ኑሮ ሳያታልላቸው ለሰማዕትነት ራሳቸውን አዘጋጁ:: እንኩዋን ሰውን አራዊትን የሚያስበረግግ የስቃይ ዓይነት ተሰልፎ ሳለ በፍጹም አልደነገጡም:: +መጀመሪያ አንቂጦስን አቀረቡት:: ገረፉት: ምንም አልሆነም:: በእሳት አቃጠሉት: ምንም አልነካውም:: ለአንበሳ ሰጡት: እነርሱ ግን ሰገዱለት:: ከዳር ሆኖ ይህንን ሁሉ ሲመለከት የነበረው ወንድሙ ፎጢኖስ ዘሎ ወደ መከራ አደባባይ ገባ:: +"ወንድሜ የክርስቶስ ነውና መቼም አታሸንፈውም" ሲል ጮኸ:: በዚህ ጊዜም በሥፍራው የነበሩ ብዙ አሕዛብ "የእነዚህ ወጣቶች አምላክ አምላካችን ነው" አሉ:: መኮንኑም 2ቱን ቅዱሳን ከብዙ ሕዝብ ጋር አሰይፏቸዋል::

And when he became 39 years old, he even went further inwards into the desert which was more isolated. ✞And the place he reached was where the sun scorched like fire and the earth was as searing as a pan. Nevertheless, the Good God grew for this great man one palm tree and brought forth a small spring. ✞Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) then started his main strife here. He frequented fasting, prayer and prostration. He first fasted for 3 days, then for 7 days and finally he ate only once in 40 days.  ✞And his meal was a handful of dates and a cheek full of water. Beyond this, he did not want to give his body an excuse or luxury. And for this reason, his body withered and his physique changed. However, he was strong and joyful, and a tireless fighter. ✞And what was amazing was his prayer. Without counting his other devotions, he used to recite “Our Father” 2,400 times during the day with a unique contemplation. And in the evening, he recited it the same number of times. And in total he used to pray “Our Father” 4,800 times a day. ✞And who could count his prostrations! The Great Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) stayed for 24 years in such a strife and his age reached 63 years. At one time, he stayed for 80 days meditating on the passions of Christ. And when he became famished, a holy angel brought down for him a heavenly bread and a heavenly drink. ✞The angel then ascended to heaven after nourishing him from the bread and letting him drink from the chalice. And when he ascended, he left him the bread. And he instructed him, “Always eat from this.” And Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) starting from that day ate from the bread until the day of his departure. And the meal did not exhaust. ✞And in the days of Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) fathers like Abune Kiros/Karas/Cyrus and the Great Shenouda lived s well. Particularly, Abba Shenouda the Archimandrite and Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) were introduced to one another as follows by the Holy Spirit. ✞One day, Abba Shenouda saw a pillar of gems stretched from the earth to heaven and he asked, “Lord! What is the mystery behind it?” and he heard a voice that said, “This pillar is Abba Pijimi (Bakimos). Go and meet him.” Hence, Abba Shenouda travelled by foot and met Abba Pijimi (Bakimos). ✞And after they exchanged greetings, Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) said to Shenouda the Great, “Let me prepare the meal and you fetch the water”. And when St. Shenouda stepped outside, filled the vessel miraculously and returned, Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) awaited him with the meal ready but without fire being started.  ✞Both amazed, exchanged smiles and knew of one another’s sanctity. After they went for a bit in the desert, they became tired and sat down. And before them they saw a human skull and tapping it with their staffs, they said, “Hey you! Rise and speak with us.” ✞And that skeleton rose as a full man and prostrated before them. They then asked, “From where have you come?” and the person replied, “From hell.” Then, he told them that he was a heathen and was in hell in much torment. And he added, “And there are many below us that say they are Christians but who trifled their Christianity. And their tortures can’t even be told.” ✞After which, they again tapped him with their staff and returned him to his prior state. After that, they bid farewell to one another and left to each of their own cells. Then, the Great Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) for the next 7 years preached the Gospel being taken up by the wings of an angel. And he brought many to the faith and repentance. ✞And he always used to weave and sell baskets.  And he was compassionate with the earnings towards the destitute. And an angel used to take him to wherever he wanted. The Great Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) departed on this day 58 years after he entered the desert at the age of 70 years. And he has inherited the glory of glories.

Amen!✞✞✞ ✞✞✞Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) the Great✞✞✞ =>According to the Church’s teaching, fathers that are named “the Great” are exceptional. And it is given because they have accomplished many virtues. And we distinguish with it saints that have similar names. ✞The background for the ascetic life is the Old Testament. It is believed that the children of Seth who lived on the Holy Mount (Debre Kidus) began it. However, the life was shown vividly by the Great Enoch - the Righteous and then by the Holy Priest Melchizedek. ✞Thereafter, St. Elijah, the Prophet and his disciple Elisha lived it. And in the New Testament St. John the Baptist, who spent his whole life in the desert, takes precedence. ✞Our Savior Christ, to Whose name’s invoking be prostration, has sanctified and taught the ascetic life by living in the Judean Desert for 40 days. And His cell that He used during His ministry for spending the night found in Mt. Olive (Elion cave) by itself is a great example of such a life. ✞Historical texts show that after the ascension of the Lord, when the Apostles become weary of the clatter of the world or when they wanted to serve their Creator with a pure and composed heart, they used to go outside the cities. And there, they lived in groups or alone. The main thing here is that they were diligent in fasting and prayer. And this passed down and reached to the 3rd century. At that time, a pure Christian named Abba Paul took this life to an advanced level. He struggled for 80 years without being seen by anyone and was called “The Father of the Hermits”. And he started asceticism that had order. ✞And 20 years after that transpired, a kind Christian named Abba Anthony sweetened the ascetic life in another way. The ascetic life was tuned when St. Michael gave the monk's habit [to St. Anthony]. Thus, Abba Anthony was named as “The Father of the Monks”. ✞And to expand the life he received disciples from different countries and tonsured them monks. And the Saints, the spiritual children of Abba Anthony, returned to their respective countries, showed the life practically and expanded monasticism. ✞Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) [one of the spiritual descendants of Abba Anthony] was a father whose name’s invocation was honored, he was a revered elder, a hermit of good old age, a monk and an apostolic. He live in the Era of the Righteous (in the 5th century) and was from Upper Egypt (Southern Egypt) like many of the then saints. ✞Abba Pijimi (Bakimos) after he was born from Christian parents studied Christianity in his childhood and became a shepherd.  And as he kept sheep, the call of God reached him. At that time, he was just 12 years old. ✞And he was called as follows. While he was shepherding, the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in the form of a man. Then, the Seraph sat and spoke to him for some time about the honor of asceticism. Afterwards he asked him, “Why don’t you and I become ascetics so that we could have this honor?” ✞Hence, the adolescent Pijimi (Bakimos) joyously said, “Okay”. And immediately, he returned the sheep to his parents and went to a monastery with the angel. And while they were traveling, the holy angel told him about many mysteries, strengthened him and indwelt in him the grace of God.  ✞However, when they reached a monastery (Scete), the angel disappeared from him. Then, St. Pijimi (Bakimos) entered into the monastery and started the ascetic life. As he was young, serving the elders, he studied well the rites of monasticism, austerity, silence and strife. ✞There, he was tonsured a monk as well. And after he served for 24 years and when he was 36 years old, he wished for the life of the hermits. And after he received the blessing of the fathers, he went to the empty desert chanting.✞And at one place, he prayed for 3 years without being discouraged by the heat of the day and the cold of the night.
