--- *1. (a)* *(i)* Two characteristics of fruits dispersed by animals: - Brightly colored to attract animals. - Fleshy and juicy to be eaten. *(ii)* Three ways in which seed dispersal is important to humans: - Ensures survival and spread of plant species. - Prevents overcrowding of plants. - Increases food variety and availability. --- *1. (b)* *(i)* *Igneous rocks* are formed when molten magma cools and solidifies either beneath (intrusive) or on the Earth’s surface (extrusive). *(ii)* *Sedimentary rocks* are formed by the accumulation and compaction of sediments from pre-existing rocks or organic materials over time. --- *1. (c)* Four negative effects of gold mining on the environment in Ghana: - Water pollution from chemicals like mercury and cyanide. - Deforestation and destruction of habitats. - Soil erosion. - Air pollution from dust and emissions. --- *1. (d)* *(i)* *Ohm’s Law:* The current (I) in a circuit is directly proportional to the voltage (V) and inversely proportional to the resistance (R); *I = V/R*. *(ii)* *Resistors:* 24Ω and 20Ω in parallel 1/R = 1/24 + 1/20 = (5+6)/120 = 11/120 R = 120/11 ≈ 10.91Ω I = V/R = 240 / 10.91 ≈ *22 A* *2. (a)* *(i)* Convectional currents: Air movement caused by warm air rising over land and cooler air over the sea, forming land and sea breezes. *(ii)* They distribute pollutants by carrying them upwards and spreading them through the atmosphere. --- *2. (b)* *(i)* Universal indicators don’t work well with colored solutions because the color of the solution can mask or alter the color change of the indicator. *(ii)* Two benefits of charcoal in filtering: - Removes bad odor. - Absorbs impurities. *(iii)* Two compounds causing permanent hardness: - Calcium sulfate (CaSO₄) - Magnesium sulfate (MgSO₄) --- *2. (c)* Four characteristics of a good brooder house: - Well ventilated - Warmth provided - Clean and dry floor - Proper lighting --- *2. (d)* *(i)* A *biotic factor* is any living component in an environment that affects other organisms. *(ii)* (α) Commensalism – Eg: Barnacles on whales (β) Mutualism – Eg: Bees and flowering plants (γ) Parasitism – Eg: Tapeworm in humans --- *3. (a)* *(i)* Two reasons quantities should be measured accurately: - To ensure correct chemical reactions - To avoid wastage of resources *(ii)* Three safety measures in a school science lab: - Wear protective gear - Label chemicals properly - Avoid eating or drinking in the lab --- *3. (b)* *(i)* Cultural practices: These are farming activities done to ensure healthy crop growth and high yield. *(ii)* (α) Weed control – Prevents competition for nutrients (β) Staking – Supports weak stems like in tomatoes (γ) Earthing-up – Prevents tubers from sunlight exposure --- *3. (c)* *(i)* Three organisms in the nitrogen cycle: - Nitrogen-fixing bacteria - Nitrifying bacteria - Denitrifying bacteria *(ii)* Two ways the Nitrogen Cycle is important to farmers: - Converts atmospheric nitrogen into usable form for plants - Enhances soil fertility naturally ---

Questions 1. Explain the term velocity ratio as associated with a machine. A machine has velocity ratio of 7 and it is 80% efficient. Calculate its mechanical advantage. 2. Explain the term farrowing as used in pig production. State two conditions that necessitate farrowing. 3. What is BMI? State the significance of BMI. A woman weighs 120 kg and is 1.4 m tall. Calculate the BMI of the woman. 4. Define the term momentum. A truck of mass 20,000 kg has the same momentum as a small car running at a velocity of 20 m/s. If the mass of the car is 1,000 kg, calculate the velocity of the truck. 5. State the general equation for a saponification reaction. State the function of concentrated sulphuric (VI) acid during an esterification reaction. Give two uses of esters. 6. Explain each of the following terms associated with reflection of light: (i) normal, (ii) incident ray, (iii) angle of reflection. 7. Draw a ray diagram to show how a ray of light with an angle of incidence 30° is reflected on a plane mirror. Indicate all the angles on the diagram. 8. What are deficiency symptoms as used in crop production? State one deficiency symptom of each of the following soil nutrients: (a) potassium; (b) nitrogen; (c) phosphorus. 9. Explain briefly what happens to human red blood cells when placed in a highly concentrated salt solution. State two differences between diffusion and osmosis. 10. What is rust? State two conditions that speed up rusting. 11. What is saponification reaction? Name the main raw material used in saponification reaction. State two ways of improving the quality of locally prepared soap. 12. Explain briefly each of the following genetic terms: (i) gene; (ii) phenotype. Give two examples of discontinuous variation in humans.
