As a candidate for Kansas Governor, I believe you deserve to know more than just my policies—you deserve to know the person behind them. I was born on Christmas Day 1962—literally delivered in a Christmas stocking—to young, working-class Catholic parents in Kansas City. We didn’t have much, but we had faith, love, and a strong work ethic. Those values shaped everything I am. I grew up in Grandview, Missouri—back when kids rode bikes until the streetlights came on. We were tethered to home by an olive green rotary phone with a 15-foot curly cord in our kitchen. No social media, just real connections and endless summer days. I spent my childhood summers swimming at the Grandview pool, and in 1979, I was honored as Swimmer of the Year. That discipline and drive still guide me today. I also carry the memory of my brother Danny, who passed at birth but remains close to my heart. Every Sunday, I ask my him to watch over me and my sons. That kind of family bond and faith is what keeps me grounded. My youngest son, Michael, was born with what I call the “Divine Chromosome”—Down syndrome. His joy, free of prejudice, reminds me daily that God’s gifts shine in the simple things. In high school, I felt a call to the priesthood and spent a year at St. John’s Seminary. From spinning records as a disc jockey to living in a Benedictine monastery—yes, I truly explored the priesthood—my path has always been grounded in prayer and meaning. That experience led me on a lifelong journey of faith and purpose. Though I ultimately chose a different calling, I built a successful career in corporate America, negotiating major business deals while raising two incredible sons. After working my way through UMKC and earning my master’s, I rose through the ranks at Sprint and other major firms. But in 2020, I walked away from corporate life to launch The Right Side with Doug Billings, now watched by millions. When President Trump told me I reminded him of Rush Limbaugh—it was the honor of a lifetime. Like many of you, I’ve stumbled and overcome. And it’s overcoming adversity that shapes a winner. From a Kansas City kid to a conservative outsider, my life—rooted in faith, family, and freedom—has led me to this moment.
