⚡ UAE Exempts Crypto Transactions From Value Added Tax Crypto in UAE just got a lot more attractive as the UAE’s Federal Tax Authority announced amendments to the country’s VAT rules on October 2nd. “The exemption makes clear for the first time that the tax doesn't apply to digital assets. It covers the exchange of and transfer of ownership of those assets, which means all cryptocurrency transfers and conversions will now be exempt from paying the 5% levy”.  The UAE maintains its position as a major center for digital assets, which is encouraging for cryptocurrency investors. The prerequisite for this decision was the preparation of the virtual assets regulatory ground. On Sept 9, the UAE’s federal financial agencies - Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) and the Securities And Commodities Authority (SCA), agreed on mutually supervising virtual asset service providers (VASPs). Due to this agreement, VASPs operating in Dubai who want to acquire a license from VARA also have the option to service the wider UAE by being registered by default with the SCA. Future of Digital Banking - What's coming next year? SWIFT will trial live transactions of tokenized assets like bonds, and digital currencies next year. According to Nick Kerigan, SWIFT's head of innovation “now we see industry demand to move out of that (trial) phase and see a digital asset really move, and have a counterparty pay them in real money against that”. This adoption has its obstacle. So far, these have failed to gain substantial traction in the wider market. While SWIFT is slowly but surely becoming swift, we’re continuing to focus on the global “tokenization process”. ⚡ How does this benefit us? With this possible SWIFT update, trading will be quicker, cheaper and more efficient, including by cutting out middlemen involved in many transactions. We’re optimistic about this kind of Fintech adoption, Zima Bank is aimed to stand in a forefront of banking digitalisation.
