What Is Ethereum’s Pectra Upgrade – And Why You Should Be Extra Careful ⚪️ Ethereum’s latest upgrade, called Pectra, introduces serious technical changes that make the network more flexible — but also more dangerous if you’re not paying attention. 🤑 One of the biggest additions is EIP-7702, which lets your wallet temporarily act like a smart contract. This means that even regular wallets like MetaMask can now approve complex on-chain actions just by signing a message — not sending a transaction. Before this upgrade, signing a message was safe by default. It was used to log in to dApps or approve terms. Now, signing a message can trigger real on-chain actions: moving tokens, sending ETH, or giving approvals — all without you hitting “Send”, or approving spending. This is possible thanks to a new system called UserOperations. You sign something off-chain, and a third party (called a relayer or bundler) submits it to the network. On your end, it still looks like a simple “Sign Message” pop-up — but it could actually be a powerful instruction hiding under the hood 🔍

⚠️ The takeaway: From now on, you can now lose everything from one wrong signature. A malicious dApp could disguise a signature request as a login or agreement, but what you’re really signing might let someone drain your wallet.

To stay safe, treat every signature request like it could move funds. Don’t sign messages you don’t understand. Avoid random dApps. Stick to audited platforms. If your wallet shows a weird hex string with no explanation — cancel it.
