Trump tells US military to prepare for possible strike in Nigeria
Donald Trump has directed the Department of War to prepare for potential “action” in Nigeria, claiming Islamist militants are carrying out mass killings of Christians. He said aid to Nigeria will be suspended unless its government “steps up.”
Nigerian officials dismissed the claim of religious genocide, noting that jihadists attack people of all faiths.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth replied publicly to Trump’s order, confirming preparations for possible operations.
Trump also declared Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” a designation that allows for sanctions over religious persecution.
Analysts warn, however, that most casualties in Nigeria’s Islamist insurgency have been Muslims.

Trump: U.S. must respond to attacks on Christians in Nigeria
Donald Trump has ordered an investigation into the mass killings of Christians in Nigeria, blaming radical Islamists for what he called “an ongoing genocide.”
“Thousands of Christians are being killed. The United States cannot stand idly by,” Trump said, designating Nigeria a “country of particular concern.”
He directed Congressman Riley Moore and House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole to take immediate action.
According to international media, Boko Haram has killed more than 100,000 Christians and burned 18,000 churches in Nigeria since 2009.

Disney vs Google: Fee dispute knocks ESPN and ABC off YouTube TV
YouTube TV users in the U.S. lost access to all Disney-owned channels, including ESPN and ABC, after the companies failed to renew their deal. Disney accused Google of exploiting its “market dominance” to avoid paying standard rates.
In response, YouTube TV said Disney’s “costly terms” would hurt customers by increasing prices. Around 10 million subscribers are impacted, and YouTube TV offered a $20 refund if the issue isn’t resolved soon.
Negotiations are ongoing, echoing earlier clashes YouTube had with NBCUniversal and Fox this year.

Russian forces intensify attacks around Pokrovsk, Ukraine’s army warns
Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported a sharp rise in Russian activity around Pokrovsk, calling the situation “difficult.” He denied claims that Ukrainian troops were surrounded, calling them Russian propaganda. Syrskyi said Russian infantry is amassing in the city, avoiding direct combat, and that the army’s key focus is identifying and destroying them while protecting soldiers’ lives.
Pokrovsk, a key logistics hub in Donetsk, has become Russia’s main target as it seeks to advance toward Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. President Zelensky said Russian forces there outnumber Ukrainians eight to one and want to capture the town to show the U.S. that Ukraine is losing ground.
Analysts from Sybelline warned that the battle has entered an “intense and dynamic phase,” with Ukrainian monitors saying Pokrovsk is “gradually being engulfed” by Russian troops.

No trade deal yet, but Trump calls Xi talks ‘amazing’
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping held an 80-minute meeting in South Korea — their first encounter since 2018. Both hailed “progress” on trade but stopped short of a deal.
China agreed to resume soybean imports and lift rare earth export controls, while the US will reduce some tariffs on chemical ingredients used in fentanyl production.
Tariffs on Chinese goods, however, remain above 40%, and no agreement was reached on TikTok.
Analysts say the meeting sets the stage for a “framework deal,” with Xi inviting Trump to Beijing next April.

Jamaica reels after record-breaking hurricane leaves nation in ruins
Hurricane Melissa, with winds up to 298 km/h, has left Jamaica’s power grid shattered and whole communities submerged. The Prime Minister declared a disaster emergency, while rescue teams battle flooding to reach families trapped in St. Elizabeth.
Locals describe the night as “stressful” and “terrifying,” with many roofs torn away and communication lines down.
The hurricane’s strength surpassed Katrina (2005), and scientists say the warming Caribbean has made such storms more explosive.

OpenAI reports rare but concerning mental health cases among ChatGPT users
New data from OpenAI shows 0.07% of weekly users may display signs of mania, psychosis, or suicidal thoughts. The company says such cases are “extremely rare,” but given ChatGPT’s 800 million weekly users, the number is substantial.
A global network of over 170 experts now helps train the AI to respond with empathy and direct users to real help. Recent updates allow ChatGPT to detect and reroute high-risk chats.
Still, concerns grow as lawsuits emerge and experts warn about AI-induced illusions that can distort vulnerable users’ sense of reality.

Amazon accused of turning delivery network into surveillance machine
What began as logistics optimization is morphing into something darker: a total surveillance web.
Amazon is testing AI-equipped smart glasses for couriers that track eye movements, scan packages, and record everything around them. Combined with van cameras that detect yawns and “distractions,” plus algorithms timing every second of warehouse work, the company has near-complete oversight of its workforce.
Now, that oversight is bleeding into the public sphere. Through its subsidiary Ring, Amazon partnered with Flock Safety — a network of vehicle-tracking cameras serving over 5,000 police departments. Officers can now request footage from Ring owners directly through the app.
Privacy advocates warn that “voluntary sharing” could soon turn into systemic surveillance — with Amazon quietly sitting at the center.

Brigitte Macron cyber-bullying trial highlights spread of online conspiracy theories
Ten defendants are on trial for participating in a coordinated cyber-bullying campaign against Brigitte Macron, accused of promoting false claims about her gender identity.
The disinformation, which began circulating after Emmanuel Macron’s 2017 election victory, has since been spread internationally by conspiracy influencers.
Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron have condemned the smear campaign as deeply harmful. The French president said the lawsuit against Candace Owens aims to “defend his honour” and combat ideologically driven misinformation.
If convicted, the accused could face up to two years in prison.

Western unity under pressure as war drags on
Divisions are widening within the West over how to handle Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
European allies, particularly Poland and the Baltic states, are pushing for increased sanctions and delivery of long-range missiles, while Washington appears to weigh a more diplomatic route amid domestic political tensions.
Experts warn that hesitation in providing decisive support could embolden Moscow and prolong the conflict well into next year.
Meanwhile, NATO officials reaffirmed their commitment to defending Ukraine’s sovereignty “for as long as it takes.”

$38 trillion: U.S. debt now rivals the world’s biggest economies
The United States’ national debt has topped $38 trillion, a figure equivalent to the total economic output of China, Germany, Japan, India, and the UK together.
That means each American effectively carries $111,000 in government debt — even the newborns.

Kamala Harris hints at 2028 comeback: “I’m not done yet”
Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris told the BBC she is “possibly” considering another run for the White House in 2028, marking her strongest signal yet of a political comeback.
Despite polls placing her far behind other potential Democratic candidates — including actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — Harris said she “never listens to polls” and still sees herself as having a future in politics.
In the interview, Harris called Donald Trump a “tyrant,” claiming her warnings about his authoritarian tendencies had proven true. She also criticized U.S. business leaders for “bending the knee at the foot of a tyrant” to stay close to power.
Her new memoir 107 Days recounts the whirlwind campaign she ran after Joe Biden withdrew from the race in 2024, describing the defeat as “traumatizing.”

Gaza doctors face ‘forensic emergency’ over bodies returned by Israel
Doctors in Gaza’s Nasser Hospital are struggling to examine nearly 200 bodies returned by Israel under Donald Trump’s ceasefire deal, citing severe shortages of cold storage and forensic equipment.
Many of the corpses show signs of possible torture — tied wrists, bruising, and blindfold marks — but the lack of autopsies makes conclusions difficult.
Israel denies any mistreatment, insisting all returned bodies were “combatants.” Gaza’s forensic team says most arrived naked or in civilian clothes, complicating identification. Only around 50 have been identified so far, while dozens remain buried without names.
Experts describe the situation as an “international forensic emergency,” urging proper autopsies to determine how the victims died.

Trump finally swaps “carrots for sticks” in dealings with Putin
After months of hesitation, President Donald Trump has imposed sanctions on Russia’s oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil, signaling growing frustration over Moscow’s refusal to compromise in Ukraine. The move follows the abrupt cancellation of a planned U.S.-Russia summit in Budapest.
Putin called the sanctions an “unfriendly act,” while former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev went further, labeling them “an act of war.” Moscow insists it won’t yield “under pressure,” and state media has mocked Trump’s “fickleness.”
Analysts say Trump’s patience has worn thin after repeated failed talks, and the sanctions mark a clear end to his previous carrot-based diplomacy.

Trump hits Russia with new sanctions after failed talks with Putin
The U.S. has imposed new sanctions on Russia’s biggest oil firms — Rosneft and Lukoil — after President Donald Trump said peace talks with Vladimir Putin “don’t go anywhere.”
Trump had previously resisted sanctions, waiting for Europe to stop importing Russian oil. The Kremlin responded that Russia was “immune” to the measures.
The move marks a major policy shift as Trump grows frustrated with Moscow’s lack of progress toward ending the three-and-a-half-year war in Ukraine.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the sanctions as a “good signal,” adding that more global pressure could lead to a ceasefire.
