Before this phase, when price moves strongly in one direction (sharp up or down), liquidity is often drained because one-sided orders dominate. When liquidity becomes scarce, the market needs a sideways phase to rebalance, generating liquidity from both buyers and sellers. This is why, after a strong move, the market usually consolidates before the next big wave begins.
Liquidity zones in a sideways trend are areas where price gets “stuck” between supply and demand, with many pending buy and sell orders. During consolidation, liquidity is concentrated around support and resistance levels, forming “price boxes” where price moves back and forth. Once liquidity in these zones is absorbed, the market tends to break out strongly in one direction.
