🇪🇺🇷🇺🇺🇦La UE aprobó este 12 de diciembre bloquear los activos rusos en Europa "indefinidamente", hasta que abandone su guerra y compense a su vecino país por los graves daños que le ha infligido durante casi cuatro años. El paso se da tras la aprobación de un procedimiento con el que ya no será necesario renovar las sanciones a Moscú cada seis meses.  Consiste en inmovilizar 210 000 millones de euros (246 000 millones de dólares) en activos soberanos rusos durante el tiempo que sea necesario, en lugar de votar cada seis meses sobre la prórroga de la congelación de activos. Esto elimina el riesgo de que Hungría y Eslovaquia, que mantienen mejores relaciones con Moscú que otros Estados miembros de la UE, se nieguen a prorrogar la congelación en algún momento, obligando a la UE a devolver el dinero a Rusia.
