How to pick the perfect moment to overbet on the river?🤔 Many players shy away from overbetting on the river, fearing it might scare off opponents. Let's delve into how to implement this strategy effectively📚 Let's consider a sample hand: We raise with J♥️Q♥️ from the button, and the small blind calls. The flop reveals 2♥️K♣️7♣️; we bet 33% of the pot, and our opponent calls. Turn - 9♥️, where we bet 75% of the pot, and our opponent continues to call. The river shows T♥️, and the opponent checks. With a flush in hand and 21 BB in the pot, should we contemplate a 4.5 pot size overbet? How do we determine if a situation warrants an overbet?🧐 1️⃣ You need a strong hand in your range. In this case, the presence of a flush is probable due to the backdoor flush draw and aggression on subsequent streets. The small blind likely has fewer flush hands due to earlier actions. 2️⃣ Your opponent should hold medium-strength hands, like Kx, middle pairs, or straight draws. If these conditions align, a 4.5 pot overbet, as suggested by the solver for a 7% range, including our J♥️Q♥️, might be prudent. Let's explore another scenario: We open with 5♦️3♦️ from the button, and the small blind defends. After checking the flop Q♠️8♠️5♣️ and betting the turn 8♦️, following the solver's recommendations, we call. The river reveals 3♣️; after our opponent bets, we raise to 24 BB, prompting a fold. While many players might opt to fold or call, according to the solver, our hand is ripe for bluffing as it blocks potential winning combinations. Balancing your play requires having strong hands in your range, so choose your bet size accordingly🃏

Bad poker habits 🚭 🙅‍♂️ Avoid bluffing against novice players. Your bluff attempts can easily fail, as beginners often call with a wide range of hands. Even on a board like 89TJ3, you might get called with a variety of cards, not just strong hands. It's crucial to recognize good bluffing opportunities and avoid them against players who tend not to fold. 🤦‍♂️ Don't engage with super-conservative players. These players, often referred to as nits, prefer to play only the strongest hands. If you notice such a player raising, it's better to fold even strong hands like KK, as they're likely to have an even stronger hand most of the time. 😑 Don't overvalue your cards. When holding top pair in deep stacks, winning a big pot is rare, but losing everything is easy. Implementing a pot control strategy and limiting bets to two instead of three can help prevent significant losses. 😡 Don't let emotions control you after setbacks. In poker, unlike chess, luck plays a significant role, and even the best hands can lose. Learning to accept bad beats as part of the game and maintaining composure is crucial for sustainable success. 🫤 Avoid facing off against skilled opponents. The primary source of income in poker comes from playing against weaker opponents. Investing time in learning complex strategies and competing against experienced players may not always be worthwhile. If the table is dominated by strong players, it's better to seek out a more profitable environment. These tips will help you steer clear of common pitfalls and enhance your game, making it more profitable in the long run.

How to approach preflop play?🤨 ☝️ Limit your calls. Even skilled players can sometimes overdo it with preflop calls. Generally, passive play through calling is justified mainly on the BTN and SB: on the BTN, we have a positional advantage over opponents, and on the SB, we get a discount on entering the pot. In other positions, the strategy typically involves either 3-betting or folding, with exceptions made for calling with the strongest hands. For instance, facing a raise from UTG, on the BTN with KK, you might call 19% of the time, and with QQ, even more frequently. 👍 Play defensively but aggressively. Your decision to defend your hands depends on the size of your opponent's bet. For instance, against a 2 BB bet, you'll defend around 66% of hands, some of which will go for a 3-bet; against a 2.5 BB bet – 44%, and against a 3 BB bet – 20%. A larger bet from your opponent necessitates more frequent 3-betting, as it becomes more profitable. 👨‍💻 Study GTO. Utilizing a GTO strategy aids in playing effectively, particularly when there's insufficient information about your opponents to exploit. Understanding the fundamentals of GTO simplifies your decision-making process, enabling you to adapt more easily to various types of opponents. ✊ Focus on equity when selecting ranges. Avoid 3-betting weak hands like J4o, even if your opponent appears inexperienced. Prefer hands with high equity, such as strong aces, kings, suited connectors, and connected cards. Refrain from playing with trash hands without valid reason. 🤠 Experiment with bet sizing. Don't hesitate to deviate from standard bet sizes. If you believe that increasing your bet by 2 BBs will yield additional profit or that a smaller 4-bet will maintain your fold equity at the appropriate level, go for it. The key is to play deliberately, not automatically. These tips will enhance your preflop play by making it more diverse and adaptable to various situations at the poker table.

Common mistakes in heads-up play Heads-Up, where the game is played one-on-one, offers the biggest prizes and money-making opportunities in MTTs. This is the most challenging format and requires a unique approach to play. 💤 Try to avoid playing tight. If you wait for the strongest combinations and do nothing, you give your opponent a chance to slowly chip away at your stack. Even if the desired Aces do come, their value may be significantly reduced. Here are the basics of successful heads-up play: 🛑 Raise often from the button. It's better to fold than to limp. 🛑 Actively respond to 3-bets, but choose a linear range for your 3-bets, avoiding polarity. 🛑 Use a wide range for a 2.5 BB raiser on 100 BB stacks. About 80% of hands will fit, except for the weakest combinations. 🛑 The range for a 3-bet is about 20% of hands. This includes strong Aces, Broadway cards, pocket pairs, and master connectors. The standard size of a 3-bet is four times the bet. 🛑 Another 55% of the hands are in the call, including all the masters. Only the weakest non-master hands are removed from the game. Bluffing in a 4-bet game is almost never used: with the exception of AK and pairs of TT and higher. 🔼 Don't overdo it with the contbets. It's important to be able to check flops that don't give you an advantage, especially on low and tied boards, as well as on monotony and mates. 🔽 Use check-raises wisely. It is important to be able to read the game subtly with wide ranges. The flops, which offer good chances for the values and draws, are ideal for check-raises. For example, a hand of К♠️Т♣️ on the flop of Т♠️4♥️2♥️ or Т♠️5♠️ on 7♠️6♣️4♣️ are great candidates for this move. By understanding and applying these principles, you can improve your heads-up play and increase your chances of winning at key moments in the tournament. ♣️1win freerolls♣️

Why are big bets needed in poker?🤔 🥇 In poker's heyday, big bets, also known as pot bets, were the norm, and small bets were mostly made by beginning players. Nowadays, the 1/3 of the pot betting strategy prevails because it is considered profitable and minimizes risk. However, there are still situations where it is worth making a big contbet. ✅ It is more difficult to play against a big bet. Let's look at the flop А♦️К♥️6♠️. Against a bet of 30% of the pot, it's hard to make a costly mistake: of course, you can still play with a pair or gutshot. But if you bet 150% of the pot, how should your opponent act? He is in an uncomfortable position. Every mistake can be costly. 🧑‍💻 The wins can be impressive, despite the fact that GTO (Game Theory Optimal Strategy) favors small bets. Solvers teach players this approach because it is easier to remember. However, the actual profits from big bets can be comparable. In reality, players often move away from GTOs, which opens up additional opportunities. 💪 Big bets are effective even against experienced players. Back to the AK6 board: Imagine you call a raiser and check to the flop. The opponent bets 150% of the pot. You must decide: 😳 Will you continue to play with the King? Which one? 🤷‍♂️ Is it always a call with A2? 🤯 What to do with JQ and a backdoor-flush draw? 😣 What hands shall be used to make a check-raise? And is it really necessary? If you don't know how to answer, that's okay. Situations like this make even professionals think twice. That's exactly the point: by creating difficult situations for stronger players, you can sometimes use that to your advantage. ♣️1win freerolls♣️

How to stop losing with aces: Simple Tips💬 ❗️ Avoid slow play. In online poker, slow play often doesn’t work. Forget about limping (going all in without raising). If someone raises before you, respond with a 2.5-3.5 raise if you are in good position, and 3-4.5 if you are in worse position. If you want to squeeze the pot, multiply your opponent’s bet by three and add the remaining money in the pot. ❓ When to use slow play? One option is to call a single raise from the button with a stack of about 20BB. Or respond to a three-bet from the button against one of the blinds when you have about 40BB. 🤬 Don’t be too aggressive. If you have a lot of chips in the pot and there is a complex combination of cards on the board, you should play cautiously. For example, if your opponent is in the big blind and you have 456 cards on the board, don’t bet. If the game is multi-player, be prepared to give up aces. ❌ Sometimes it is better to fold when you see the situation getting dangerous and you only have one pair (even if it is aces). If your opponent is actively playing you and makes a big bet on the last street (river) and you don’t have a strong combination, it is better to fold. 🔄 Don’t be afraid to raise with aces. Many players miss opportunities to win more money because they are afraid their opponent will bluff. At lower limits, opponents rarely bluff on the river. If you think you have a good hand, bet. If your opponent raises and you don’t have a strong combination, it’s better to fold.

Ace on the flop – what to do?💳 Don’t play all flops with an ace the same way. It’s a sign that it’s time to change your game. 💰 When to Bet Big? According to the Solver, big bets are preferred on flops where the raiser has a significant advantage with strong combinations (nut hands). AJ4, AQ5, AK8 are examples of such flops. On these flops, your opponent most likely does not have top pair, as he would have 3-bet pre-flop. The recommended betting range is 75% to 133%. However, flops like AQQQ and AQT are not good for this strategy because your opponent may have Qx and KJ. 🛡 Check range protection. On A-high flops, it is important to protect your check range. For example, on an AK4 flop, don’t bet with QQ, JJ or K5, but protect your range with weak top pairs. AQ is almost always bet, and A2 is rarely bet. The same goes for pocket pairs: bet with 55, but not with QQ. On the flop, the AK4 hand J8 will not pay a counterbet because it has enough equity against 55. Big defenses require big bets. ⚖️ When to choose medium or small size? On coordinated flops like A76, A87, A86, you want to bet about 50% of the pot. The difference between A83 and A87 is huge: With the latter, your opponent has more hands to call. On dry flops, betting 33% of the pot is often enough. With KK and A2, it is sometimes worth checking. With connectors and one-suit flops, you can choose the minimum size. 🤑 How to play BB? Follow a simple rule: the bigger the B-bet, the less often you should check-raise to defend BB on an A-high flop. Change the frequency, not the range. Use draws, bottom pairs, and backdoor pairs to build your raises around equity. For example, on A83, against a 33% pot bet, 52 and 54, as well as T-7 and 97, are suitable for a check-raise. Against big bets, raises are almost never made because the opponent’s range is polarized.

How to get better at poker?🧠 Playing poker at the professional level is a dream for many people, especially when you have the opportunity to win big, but it takes discipline and hard work to achieve great results. This article will give you some tips on how to improve your game. It is always a pleasure for experienced players to meet an amateur who is playing for fun. 👁 Here are five rules to help you play: 1️⃣ Start with small bets. The higher the limits, the more serious your opponents will be. It will be much easier to play in tournaments with an entry fee of up to $5 than to play in tournaments with higher limits. This is just like playing chess, it’s useless for a beginner to play for money against a grandmaster. 2️⃣ Focus on the game. Total concentration will help you avoid mistakes and make thoughtful decisions, increasing your chances of winning tournament prizes. 3️⃣ Stay calm after a big win or loss. In poker, deciding to play higher limits after a big win and trying to win back after a big loss are two extremes that are equally dangerous. Both of these approaches are likely to lead to losses in the long run. 4️⃣ Do not make deposits while tilted. This often leads to even greater losses. If you lose your entire bankroll, do not rush to use your savings to rebuild your account. ❗️ Remember that luck is only one factor in poker success. There are many aspects to the game of poker. These include the random number generator, the 19,600 flop combinations, the different playing styles of your opponents, and much more. The more you study the game, the less you will be affected by the luck factor. However, it’s important to remember that even the best players can run into some bad luck from time to time.

How did three poker players manage to steal $126,000 from a casino?😈 Cheating stories abound in the poker community, and it is not uncommon for successful former players to be the perpetrators of these stories. 🥷 An interesting scheme was devised by three American poker players of Armenian origin, Vahan Sudzhyan, Pogos Simityan and Gevorg Avagyan. They played at the tables of such unpopular poker games as Mississippi Stud and Let it Ride. 👀 Poker players bent the edges of cards containing jacks, aces, kings, and queens. When the cards were returned to the dealer's hand, they already had a distinct bend to them that was noticeable. This allowed the fraudsters to obtain information about the closed cards at the table. According to preliminary information, poker players at the Paris Casino in Las Vegas lost approximately $126,000 in a similar scheme. Police also investigated other gambling establishments where the trio played. It turned out that they also folded cards at the Wynn and Planet Hollywood casinos, but it has not yet been determined exactly how much they took from those establishments. ⛔️ It is interesting to note that Sudzhyan, Simityan, and Avagyan are quite successful poker players. The same Sudzhyan and Simityan have earned more than $1,200,000 in live tournament earnings. As for Avagyan, almost nothing is known about his poker exploits. At the moment, all three poker players have a high chance of going to jail. Vahan Sudzhyan and Gevorg Avagyan have already pleaded guilty, while Pogos Simityan is still awaiting trial.

Absolute and Effective Nut Hands – What Are They?🤞 We continue to learn the basics of poker. This time we're going to look at nut hands. Your hand may be the best hand you have at the moment. But it's important to understand the difference between an absolute nut hand and an effective nut hand. The term “Nut Hands” is used to refer to the best possible combination of cards on the current board. Obviously, this is a very favorable situation for you. You may have heard of “absolute nut hands”, but what are they? What is useful to know about them, and how do they differ from regular nut hands? The introduction of a third term, “effective nut hands”, is the best way to explain this difference. 🤓 Same thing, but with some differences In both cases, you have the best possible hand, but absolute nut hands are the best possible hand, while effective nut hands are the best possible hand given the blockers on absolute nut hands. Let's explain this using the two pictures that accompany this post. The best possible hand on the AAK26 board is AA. In this case, the absolute best hands are Aces four of a kind. However, any combination of AKs is also a nut hand. In this case, your opponent will never have a rack because you have one of the Aces he needs. Therefore, the best hand here is AAAKK, which are effective nut hands. Depending on what you have (absolute or effective nut hands), you can play your hands differently, but you will always have the best possible combination.

What is Back Raising?🤓 We continue to learn the basics of poker! Next up is Back Rasing. This unconventional move is played on the current street by calling and then re-rasing. Let's take a closer look at it. 👉 The term "back raise" may not be very familiar to you, simply because these situations are rare. This strategy is difficult to execute and is only possible in multi-pot games. A back-raise is a re-raise after calling a bet within the same betting round. This move is usually deceptive because we are first indicating that we want to play a passive line. For example, UTG raises, SB calls, and BB 3-bets. UTG calls and SB makes a 4-bet/push. This is a back raise played by SB.

How to qualify for expensive tournaments?🤑 Who doesn’t dream of winning a prestigious tournament with a huge prize pool and a high-profile title? Unfortunately, the buy-ins for these events are not affordable for everyone. Luckily, we have satellites that give all players a chance to put their name in poker history! However, BE READY! In such tournaments, you have to use a completely different strategy. 1️⃣ Early stage Here you need to look for spots with low dispersion that will allow you to build up your stack. In most early-stage structures, there’s no need to worry about ICM because there are still plenty of players in the tournament, and there will be more before the late registration period ends. 2️⃣ After late registration The number of participants is now fixed. From here, it is possible to calculate the average stack that a player should be able to get into the prizes with. For example, if there are 10 players with a stack of t10,000 with five prizes, we need to target a stack of t20,000. This is a theoretical model and should only be used as a general guide. 3️⃣ Endgame As we get closer to the prizes, our decisions should lean toward maximizing $EV, and now our ranges are affected by additional variables. When we are short stacked, we need to push more often against the players who are covering us with chips. For such players, losing calls of our pushes will be extremely unprofitable in terms of $EV. However, at lower limits, it’s best not to push players into the crowd with any two cards just because they ‘have to’ discard most of their hands. Instead, attack the players on the blinds, BU, CO and possibly MP3. 4️⃣ Fold is a winning strategy This strategy has the lowest dispersion. At this point, it becomes the most profitable. It is applicable when we have enough chips to take as many folds as possible and wait for short stacks to show up. Depending on the stack distribution at the tables, we may lose a few spots on the leaderboard but still get our prize, while the short stacks will have to fight hard to survive. Our stack can thin faster if there are a lot of short-stacks at the table who are constantly floping to our BB and we have no position on the chip leader. If it looks like the blinds are going to get us before the time, we need to re-steal players who have more to lose than we do (in this case, stacks that are equal to or larger than ours). To be continued in the next post🔽

Ace’s Story📖 🇫🇷 The English term Ace is derived from the Old French word ‘as’, which means ‘one’. Historically, the Ace had the lowest value in the deck and was denoted by the number 1, but over time it became the dominant card. 👑 And in games like poker or blackjack, the player can choose the value of the ace – as the highest or as one. The French Revolution had a major impact on the rise of the Ace. It came to symbolize the supremacy of the common man over kings. In addition to cards, the word ‘ace’ began to be applied to people who had achieved the highest degree of excellence in their professions.

Fact of the Day: The Kings can do anything👑 The images of card kings are taken from real rulers of the past: the King of Spades represents King David, the King of Clubs is Alexander the Great, the King of Hearts is Charlemagne, and the King of Diamonds is the Roman Emperor Augustus. The suits themselves also correspond to different social classes: Spades represent nobility, Clubs represent peasants, Hearts represent clergy, and Diamonds represent merchants.

What are the types of bets in poker?💸 Today we will continue our discussion about the types of bets and when to use them. 👣 Steal-equity We have a medium-strength hand that can be easily overcalled after a check, so our bet is aimed at taking the pot right away and preventing our opponent from realizing the equity of the weaker part of the range. For example, if we have 44 on a 22T board, we can make a small bet to put pressure on the KQ/KJ/KT and A hands, as well as the random garbage like 67 and 78. Unlike a defensive bet, we’re not sure that we’re ahead, but our opponent has a bunch of weak hands that can’t be dealt free cards, and that justifies the bet. 🛡 Block bet This is a small no-position bet that we make to prevent our opponent from either checking back or betting so much that we can’t call. For example, we can bet 1/3 of the pot out of position to prevent our opponent from betting 2/3 of the pot after we check. Block bets can also be made with strong hands on terrible boards. For example, if we have 22 on the board 289TJ, this hand is strong enough to get a Value with a Pair. However, such hands, fearing that we have a Q or 7, will not put a Value Bet on the board when we check. 💸 Merge bet This is a difficult bet to make with a medium-strength hand, and it can sometimes force the best hands to fold and the worst hands to call. For example, if we have KK on the AJ3 board, a big bet can take out A8 because that hand has a weak kicker, but KJ can call because it beats bluffs and blocks AK/AJ. ⚖️ Balance In the world of GTO, almost all hands are played differently. Sometimes we make block bets with monsters or bluffs to protect our range. We can also overbet with bluffs so that opponents keep paying overbets on the wild. If our bets are poorly balanced, we can start to be abused. 👆 Note that all of the above examples are how we (humans) think about or categorize betting, but ultimately every bet is made for exactly two real reasons: 1️⃣ To make the worst hands call to win the biggest pots; 2️⃣ To make the hands that have a chance to win be folded and to take the pot more often without having to showdown.

The rarest poker combinations 🌟 There are combinations that are surprisingly rare and powerful in the poker world. Here are the most unusual of them: 👑 The Royal Flush is the dream of every player. It is a sequence of cards from a 10 to an Ace of the same suit. The chance of occurrence is approximately 1 in 649,740. 🌟 A Straight Flush is a sequence of the same suit that does not result in a Royal Flush. The probability is about 1 in 72,193. 🚀 A Four of a Kind hand consists of four cards of the same value. The chances of such luck are about 1 in 4,165. 🎭 A Full House is defined as having three of a Kind and a Pair. A strong enough hand with a probability of 1 in 693. 🌊 A Flush is five cards of the same suit. The chances of making a Flush are about 1 in 509. Remember, even the rarest combination requires skill and strategy to win. Use this knowledge in 1win tournaments.

Is it okay to tip a dealer?🤝 💰 In both poker and casino-style games, many players tip the dealers, including at the World Series of Poker. Some players take money with them when they attend an event. They use it to tip the dealers after winning big pots. Sometimes, when a player wins the big prizes, he or she will spend as much money on tips for the entire tournament as it cost to play in the event itself. ⛔️ It is not always possible to pay the dealer with the chips a player uses in a tournament. In most poker rooms, this is prohibited by the rules, as the player is acting to the detriment of his opponents at the table. If the player gives some of his chips to the dealers for tips, the other players cannot win them from the player and use them to play against other opponents at other tables. This is allowed at cash tables.
