✞✞✞ Saint Anianus of Egypt✞✞✞ =>Since the contributions of this holy father were great, he is honored in Egypt in a grand manner. And as he was a father that received Christianity from the Apostles and delivered It to the faithful, he is given a great place. And if asked how that came to be, it was as follows. ✞The Evangelist and Apostle St. Mark, appointed by St. Peter the Arch-apostle and by the Will of God, went to Egypt in the 50s A.D to preach the Gospel. ✞And as the City of Alexandria was on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, he reached there first. And when he entered the city (a locality named Rakotis), before he even started evangelizing, the strap of his shoe broke as he had tripped. Saddened that his shoe, which had endured all that desert, broke per an obstacle, he went to a cobbler and asked, “Could you mend it for me?”   ✞And the shoe maker was called Anianus (Anianu). And though he was an idolator, he was kind and meek. Hence, he replied, “Alright” and when he started to mend the shoe back together, the awl impaled his middle digit and he screamed, “Itastaos (Ataos) - Eis Theos - Heis ho Theos”. And it meant “One God”. ✞Thus, St. Mark who heard this looked up and said, “My Lord! I thank You for straightening my path.” And then by his spittle made clay on the ground from the dirt and smeared the hand of Anianus. ✞Immediately, the blood stopped, the wound healed and it was as before. And feeling shocked and in joy per the miracle, he asked the Saint, “Who are you?” And the Evangelist answered, “I am the Apostle of Christ.” ✞Thereafter, Anianus invited the Apostle with, “Please, let us go to my home.” And when they reached the house, his wife and children served the Apostle and pleaded from him the Word of Life. Hence, St. Mark taught them from Creation to Redemption by our Lord, and they believed. He then baptized and gave them from the Holy Eucharist. ✞Thus, this house, St. Anianus’ house, became the first seminary and church in the land of Egypt. And the Holy Apostle, around the year 60 A.D, while residing in the abode of St. Anianus converted many. And before he became a martyr, the Evangelist appointed St. Anianus as the Archbishop (Patriarch) of all of Egypt. ✞Afterwards, St. Anianus struggled for 12 years increasing the flock of Christ. He sowed the pure seed that he had received from the Apostle and had the glad tiding of salvation reach many. And this good flora [that he sowed] exists to this day without withering.  ✞Hence, the present Patriarch of Alexandria, Pope Tawadros II, is the 118th successor of St. Mark and 117th successor of St. Anianus. The Saint, to us Ethiopians, is our father in the Apostolic Succession as well. This day is the Saint’s day of passing. ✞✞✞May the God of the Saints remove evil from us and enable us to reach a good era. #Feasts of #Hedar_20 ✞✞✞On this day we commemorate the Great Martyr Mar Theodore and Saint Anianus✞✞✞ ✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞ ✞✞✞ Saint Mar Theodore the Martyr✞✞✞ =>Mar Theodore, who is one of the martyrs that are given prince-hood among the martyrs in the Church, was born in Antioch (Syria) in the 3rd century. His father, John was a Christian that was an Egyptian by lineage. But his mother was a very difficult idol worshipping Syrian. ✞While husband and wife lived together; the wife did not know that her husband was a Christian. But when Theodore (which means the gift of God) was born quarrelling began. They got into conflict while the husband wanted to get him baptized and the wife wanted to take him to the temple of idols. Because the relatives of the wife were officials, she snatched away her son and persecuted/drove away/ her husband, John, to Egypt. ✞And John where he stayed in exile, started to pray for his son and weep.   God heard his plea. Then, Mar Theodore, when he became a youth, without being called by anyone, went to Church, learned and was baptized. He daily increased in his fast, prayer together with almsgiving and strived to keep his celibacy.   ✞As much as that, he was also loved because at just twenty years old, he was mighty in strength, handsome in appearance and kind in his character. The rulers then appointed him as the commander of the Antiochian army. Until today, he is called “Commander/General/ Stratelates”. ✞Mar Theodore was never defeated in all the battles he took part. Rather, he was known for taking captive the children of enemy rulers. Even at one battle with gentiles, he alone defeated the aggressors. ✞When the people of Persia came to wage war; an Angel descended from heaven and gave him a sword. He then said to the Persians, “Instead of perishing vainly return to your country.” However, they mocked him. Hence, he went down from his horse, turned to the east, prayed and made the sign of the Cross. Then, he entered amongst them and slaughtered all, without leaving anyone for witness.   ✞On another day, when he entered into a city, he found a python being worshipped. On top of that, he saw one Christian woman’s children being taken as offerings to it. Henceforth, he signed himself in the name of the Trinity, sat on his horse and killed that snake with a spear.  The length of that serpent was 24 cubits. ✞After sometime, St. Theodore heard news about his father, and then he searched for him. When he found him, he made his father jubilant and until his death, he stayed with him. After burying him, when he returned to Antioch, a dejected matter awaited him. ✞He saw Christianity renounced, idols erected, churches burnt, the blood of Christians spilt and the city filled with iniquity. At that moment, he had to decide and he did. Though he was the commander of all the army, he took off his honorary attire and stood before Diocletian readily.   ✞Mar Theodore spoke publicly as follows, “I worship with my whole heart Christ, to Whom is glory, and offer only to Him.” The Emperor in anger ordered that they beat him after dropping him to the ground. The soldiers lashed him until his blood trickled down. ✞They tortured him with many devices and then burned him. Nevertheless, he turned the fire to water with his prayer. The soldiers afflicted him much but he persisted by the Power of God and endured. ✞Finally, our Lord descended to him in glory and gave him a covenant saying, “My beloved Theodore I will forgive the person who calls your name, holds your feast, writes, gets authored or reads your accounts, buys and places it in his/her home.” ✞He then ascended after telling him that in his name aid will be done. Thereafter, the soldiers beheaded him and he received the crown of glory. Many thousands of people were also slain with him. [And on this day, his church was consecrated.]

Then with great psalmody they shrouded it, carried it on their head and buried him in their cell.✞And St. Sergius, after being imprisoned for six more days, while his hands and feet were nailed on wood, was tied to the tails of animals and was dragged for a whole day. Then, when he was beheaded, a young girl received his blood [in a clip of wool] and received a blessing. And when the Era of Tribulation passed, a Church was built in the name of the Saints and was consecrated on this day. And miracles were seen. ✞✞✞Saint Theophilus and His Family✞✞✞ =>Saint Theophilus was a firm Christian that lived in the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. And when God made him fortunate, He gave him a wife who persevered and that perseveres, that was strong and strengthened. And her name was Patricia. ✞She was a fierce woman that knew not inhibition and compromise when it came to her Christianity and her Creator. And while they lived married per the law and rite, God visited them with His grace and St. Patricia conceived. And when she bore her child, she named him “Demalis” according  to the tongue of their region. ✞And when she rose from her bedchamber after childbirth, the dreaded Era of Persecution came suddenly. And while her body was not recovered well and her son was only 5 months old, she heard the news that her husband had fell in the hands of the cruel King. ✞Though this seemed to be a great trial, nonetheless she went to the prison carrying her child. And she said to her husband, “My brother! Because you will find your child and I with Christ, endure. Do not leave your honor.”  And he jubilantly received many afflictions. ✞And when the lashings, fire and the sharp objects befell upon him, through the miracles he performed, he attracted many of the gentiles. And an angel that descended from heaven nourished him on milk and honey. Thereafter, on this day, he was thrown to a lion. And the lion prostrated to the Saint, kissed his feet, and then pressing on his neck killed him. ✞Immediately, his wife, St. Patricia was caught and given to the lion with her child. At that instant, the 5 months old child, St. Demalis, opened his mouth and voiced with a smile, “As I believe in the Trinity, I am not frightened of a lion.” And instantly the lion killed the mother and child. #Feasts of #Hedar_19 ✞✞✞On this day we commemorate the martyrs Saints Sergius and Theophilus✞✞✞ ✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞ ✞✞✞ Saints Bacchus and Sergius ✞✞✞ =>Martyrdom is the highest price a Christian pays for his/her faith. A person can subdue his body in the service of God or give away his wealth and property. However, the greatest gift is offering oneself.  ✞Giving oneself is possible in matrimony or asceticism. Nevertheless, its peak is martyrdom. As Saint Ephraim the Syrian said, “…the martyrs rejected the desire of this world, and poured out their blood for God, and have endured bitter death[s] for the sake of the kingdom of heaven” martyrdom means enduring unpleasant death for the love of God. (Thursday’s Theotokia) ✞Did not our Redeemer Christ while being the Lord of heaven and earth endure the humiliation of the Cross and die for us! Many religions in the world speak about killing directly or indirectly. However, Christianity does not have a rule that puts forward killing [others]. ✞That is because He Himself has told us, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matt. 5:44). However, if we do not nourish our faith and virtues daily, as Christianity is not a belief where one becomes perfect in a day, there might be failure in trials. ✞Particularly, we the Christian youth of today should give due attention since the chronicles of the youth martyrs of the past are articulated to us so that we standfast.  *Let’s see the chronicles of Saints Bacchus and Sergius in short for today. ✞These Saints are the fruits of the Era of Persecution/Martyrs. Bacchus and Sergius were friends from their childhood. In the 3rd century, until Maximian (Maximianus) and Diocletian became rulers of Rome, there was relative peace. ✞During the times of peace, the Saints were not idle. They prayed, fasted and performed good deeds, as it is what is held in the time of peace, which becomes a ration for the period of tribulation. ✞As much as that, one should sustain oneself too, so when they looked for work Maximian started gathering men for his army. And they were counted as the warriors of the earthly Emperor. Though today, one of the jobs counted as unconducive for Christianity is being a soldier. ✞But when you look at many Saints, it was their profession. Saints Bacchus and Sergius prayed, fasted and gave alms whether it was the time of peace or war. Years passed while they lived in such manner. ✞But later on, Maximian, the abode of Satan, started worshipping idols. He also started persecuting and killing Christians by announcing a decree [of persecution]. And when the Saints heard this, they were grieved. ✞They then sat and discussed. Because the love for Christ burned in their hearts, they were not deceived by their young age (youthfulness), good looks and being loved by many. As if they were of one mind and tongue, they decided to be martyred for the faith. ✞The next day, they went to their immediate superior officer and said to him, “We have something to tell you.” And when he replied, “Okay”, they threw their armor before him and said, “As we are soldiers of Christ, we no longer obey orders from you who is an idol worshipper.” ✞And as the officer was angered, he had them whipped and imprisoned. He also had them tortured with many devices, afflicted them with hunger, and thirst. However, the Saints were enduring, and they could not prevail against them. And on Tekemt 4 (October 14) they separated them (the 2). They took St. Bacchus alone, and they threw him into a river after tying a bolder to his neck and drowned him. ✞And when his soul left his body, the river pushed him to the bank. And because there were hermits called Baba and Mama in the area, God ordered them to shroud the body. And when they went to the place, they found a lion and a wolf guarding the body.

ቅዱስ በርተሎሜዎስ ልደቱ

††† እንኳን ለቅዱሳን ሰማዕታት ሰርጊስ ወቴዎፍሎስ ዓመታዊ በዓል በሰላም አደረሳችሁ፤ አደረሰን። ††† ††† በስመ አብ ወወልድ ወመንፈስ ቅዱስ አሐዱ አምላክ አሜን! ††† ††† ቅዱሳን ባኮስ ወሰርጊስ ††† ††† ሰማዕትነት በክርስትና ለሃይማኖት የሚከፈል የመጨረሻው ዋጋ (መስዋዕትነት) ነው:: ሰው ለፈጣሪው ሰውነቱን ሊያስገዛ: ሃብት ንብረቱን ሊሰጥ ይችላል:: ከስጦታ በላይ ታላቅ ስጦታ ግን ራስን አሳልፎ መስጠት ነው:: ራስን መስጠት በትዳርም ሆነ በምናኔ ውስጥ ይቻላል:: የመጨረሻ ደረጃው ግን ሰማዕትነት ነው:: "አማን መነኑ ሰማዕት ጣዕማ ለዝ ዓለም: ወተዓገሡ ሞተ መሪረ በእንተ መንግስተ ሰማያት" እንዳለው ቅዱስ ኤፍሬም ሶርያዊ ሰማዕትነት ማለት መራራውን ሞት ስለ ፍቅረ እግዚአብሔር ሲሉ መታገስ ነው:: እርሱ ቅሉ መድኃኒታችን ክርስቶስ የሰማይና የምድር ጌታ ሲሆን ኃፍረተ መስቀልን ታግሦ ሙቶልን የለ! በዓለም ያሉ ብዙ እምነቶች ስለ መግደል በቀጥታም ሆነ በተዘዋዋሪ ያስተምራሉ:: ክርስትና ግን መሞትን እንጂ መግደልን የሚመለከት ሕግ የለውም:: እርሱ ባለቤቱ "ጠላቶቻችሁን ውደዱ:: የሚረግሟችሁን መርቁ:: ስለሚያሳድዷችሁ ጸልዩ::" ብሎናልና:: (ማቴ. 5:44) ነገር ግን ዕለት ዕለት ራሳችንን በሃይማኖትና በምግባር ካልኮተኮትነው ክርስትና በአንድ ጀምበር ፍጹም የሚኮንበት እምነት አይደለምና በፈተና መውደቅ ይመጣል:: በተለይ የዘመኑ ክርስቲያን ወጣቶች ልናስተውል ይገባናል:: የቀደሙ ወጣት ሰማዕታት ዜና የሚነገረን እንድንጸና ነውና:: እስኪ ለዛሬ ደግሞ በአጭሩ የቅዱሳን ባኮስና ሰርጊስን ዜና እንካፈል:: እነዚህ ቅዱሳን የዘመነ ሰማዕታት ፍሬዎች ናቸው:: ባኮስ እና ሰርጊስ (ሰርግዮስ) ከልጅነት ጀምሮ ባልንጀሮች ናቸው:: በ3ኛው መቶ ክ/ዘመን በሮም ግዛት ሥር መክስምያኖስና ዲዮቅልጢያኖስ እስከ ነገሡበት ዘመን ድረስ በአንጻሩም ቢሆን ሰላም ነበር:: ታዲያ በዚህ የሰላም ጊዜ ሁለቱ ቅዱሳን ሥራ አልፈቱም:: ጾምን: ጸሎትንና በጐ ምግባራትን ሁሉ ይከተሉ ነበር:: ለመከራ ዘመን ስንቅ የሚሆነን በሰላሙ ዘመን የተያዘ ስንቅ ነውና:: በዚያው አንጻር ደግሞ ሠርቶ መብላት ይገባልና ሥራ ሲፈልጉ መክስምያኖስ ሠራዊት መሰብሰብ ጀመረ:: እነርሱም ከሠራዊቱ ዘንድ ተቆጥረው የምድራዊ ንጉሥ ጭፍሮች ሆኑ:: በእርግጥ በዘመናችን ለክርስትና አይመቹም ከሚባልላቸው ሥራዎች አንዱ ውትድርና ነው:: ነገር ግን ብዙ ቅዱሳንን ስትመለከቷቸው ሙያቸው ይሔው ነበር:: ቅዱሳን ባኮስና ሰርጊስ ጊዜው የሰላምም ይሁን የጦርነት ይጾማሉ:: ይጸልያሉ:: ይመጸውታሉ:: እንዲህ እንዲህ እያሉም ዘመናት አለፉ:: ከቆይታ በኋላ ግን ሰይጣን ያደረበት ንጉሡ መክስምያኖስ ጣዖት አመለከ:: አዋጅም አውጥቶ ክርስቲያኖችን ያሰቃይ: ይገድልም ያዘ:: ቅዱሳኑ ይህንን ሲሰሙ አዘኑ:: ቁጭ ብለውም ተወያዩ:: በልባቸው ፍቅረ ክርስቶስ ይነድ ነበርና ወጣትነታቸው: መልካቸው: ተወዳጅነታቸው ሁሉ ሊያታልላቸው አልቻለም:: እንደ አንድ ልብ መካሪ: እንደ አንድ ቃል ተናጋሪ ስለ ሃይማኖት ሊሰው ወሰኑ:: በማግስቱም ንጉሡ ወደ ሾመው የቅርብ አለቃቸው ቀረቡና "የምንነግርህ ነገር አለን" አሉት:: "እሺ" ሲላቸው በወገባቸው ያለውን የክብር መታጠቂያና የክብር ልብሳቸውን በፊቱ ወረወሩለትና "እኛ የክርስቶስ ጭፍሮች ነንና ከዚህ በኋላ ላንተ: ለጣዖት አምላኪው አንታዘዝም" አሉት:: መኮንኑ ነዶታልና አስገረፋቸው: አሳሰራቸው:: በረሃብና በጥም: በብዙ መክፈልተ ኩነኔም አሰቃያቸው:: እነርሱ ግን ጽኑዓን ነበሩና አልቻሏቸውም:: ጥቅምት 4 ቀን በሆነ ጊዜ ግን ሁለቱን ለያዩዋቸው:: ቅዱስ ባኮስን ለብቻው ወስደው ትልቅ ድንጋይ በአንገቱ ላይ አሠሩበትና ባሕር ውስጥ አሰጠሙት:: ነፍሱም ከስጋው ስትለይ ባሕር ወደ ዳር አስወጣችው:: በአካባቢውም "ባባ" እና "ማማ" የሚባሉ ባሕታውያን ነበሩና እግዚአብሔር እንዲገንዙት አዘዛቸው:: ሲሔዱም ቅዱስ ሥጋውን አንበሳና ተኩላ ሲጠብቁት አግኝተው: በታላቅ ዝማሬ ገንዘው: በራሳቸው ተሸክመው ወስደው: በበዓታቸው ውስጥ ቀበሩት:: ቅዱስ ሰርጊስን ደግሞ ለ6 ቀናት ካሠሩት በኋላ እጁንና እግሩን በእንጨት ላይ ቸንክረው: በእንስሳት ጭራ ላይ አስረው ሲጐትቱት ውለዋል:: አንገቱን በሰየፉት ጊዜም አንዲት ወጣት ደሙን ተቀብላ በረከትን አግኝታለች:: የመከራ ዘመን ካለፈ በኋላም ለቅዱሳኑ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ታንጾ በዚህች ቀን ተቀድሷል: ተአምራትም ታይተዋል:: ††† ቅዱስ ቴዎፍሎስና ቤተሰቡ ††† ††† ቅዱስ ቴዎፍሎስ በ3ኛው መቶ ክ/ዘመን በሮም ግዛት ሥር ይኖር የነበረ ጽኑዕ ክርስቲያን ነው:: እግዚአብሔር ሲያድለው ደግሞ ጸንታ የምታጸና: በርትታ የምታበረታ ሚስትን ሰጠው:: ስሟም ጰጥሪቃ ይባላል:: በክርስትናዋና በፈጣሪዋ ፍቅር ላይ ይሉኝታና ድርድርን የማታውቅ ብርቱ ሴት ናት:: ሁለቱ ተጋብተው በሕጉና በሥርዓቱ ሲኖሩ እግዚአብሔር በረድኤት ጐበኛቸውና ቅድስት ጰጥሪቃ ጸነሰች:: በወለደችውም ጊዜ "ደማሊስ" ስትል በሃገራቸው ልሳን ስም አወጣችለት:: ልክ ግን ከአራስነት አልጋዋ በተነሳችበት ወራት ያ የመከራ ዘመን (ዘመነ ሰማዕታት) ድንገት ደረሰ:: እሷም አካሏ አልጸናም: ልጇም ገና 5 ወሩ ነው:: ባሏ ቅዱስ ቴዎፍሎስ ደግሞ በጨካኙ ንጉሥ እጅ መውደቁን (መታሠሩን) ሰማች:: ይኼ እጅግ ከባድ ፈተና ቢመስልም እርሷ ግን ልጇን አዝላ ወደ እሥር ቤት ሔደች:: ባሏንም "ወንድሜ! እኔና ልጅህን በክርስቶስ ዘንድ ስለምታገኘን ጽና:: ክብርህን እንዳትተው" አለችው:: እርሱም ደስ ብሎት ብዙ መከራን ተቀበለ:: ግርፋቱ: እሳቱ ስለቱ ሁሉ ሲያልፍበት በተአምራቱ አሕዛብን ማረከ:: ቅዱስ መልአክም ከሰማይ ወርዶ ማርና ወተትን መገበው:: ከዚያም በዚህ ቀን ለአንበሳ ተሰጠ:: አንበሳውም ለቅዱሱ ሰግዶ: እግሩንም ስሞ: አንገቱን ተጭኖ ገደለው:: ወዲያው ሚስቱ ቅድስት ጰጥሪቃ ተይዛ እርሷም ከነ ልጇ ለአንበሳ ተሰጠች:: በዚህ ጊዜ የ5 ወር ሕጻን ቅዱስ ደማሊስ አፉን ከፍቶ "እኔስ በሥላሴ አምናለሁና አንበሳን አልፈራም" ሲል እየሳቀ ጮኸ:: ወዲያውም እናትና ልጅን አንበሳው ገደላቸው:: ቅዱሱ ቤተሰብም ለክብር በቃ:: ††† አምላከ ሰማዕታት ጽንዐታቸውን: ትእግስታቸውንም ያድለን:: ከበረከታቸውም ይክፈለን:: ††† ኅዳር 19 ቀን የሚከበሩ ዓመታዊ የቅዱሳን በዓላት 1.ቅዱስ ሰርጊስ ሰማዕት 2.ቅዱስ ቴዎፍሎስ ሰማዕት 3.ቅዱሳን ጰጥሪቃና ደማሊስ (የቅዱሱ ሚስትና ልጅ) 4.ቅዱስ በርተሎሜዎስ ሐዋርያ (ልደቱ) ††† ወርሐዊ በዓላት 1.ቅዱስ ገብርኤል ሊቀ መላእክት 2.ቅዱስ ኤስድሮስ ሰማዕት 3.አቡነ ዓቢየ እግዚእ ጻድቅ 4.አቡነ ስነ ኢየሱስ 5.አቡነ ዮሴፍ ብርሃነ ዓለም 6.ቅዱስ ይምርሐነ ክርስቶስ ††† "እግዚአብሔር ለኛ የሰማዕትነትን ሥራ ይሰጠን ዘንድ ቅዱሳን ስለሚሆኑ ሰማዕታት እንማልዳለን::" ††† (ሥርዓተ ቅዳሴ ቁ. ፸፫) ††† ወስብሐት ለእግዚአብሔር †††
