Dozens reported killed in Israeli strike on Rafah Dozens of people have been killed or injured in a blast at a refugee camp in the Rafah area, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza has said. Videos from the scene in the southern Gaza Strip showed a large explosion and intense fires burning. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had targeted two senior Hamas leaders at one of the group's compounds and would review reports fire had spread to shelters, harming civilians. read more

Months after some Israelis started to protest against aid lorries entering Gaza at the main Kerem Shalom crossing, the battle has moved to other key junctions, where rival groups of activists do their best to block or protect aid convoys. Three more Israeli hostages' bodies found in Gaza The bodies of three more Israeli hostages have been recovered from Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have said. They are those of Hanan Yablonka, Michel Nisenbaum and Orion Hernandez, it said in a statement. The IDF said the men's bodies were recovered from the northern town of Jabalia overnight in a joint operation with Israel's domestic intelligence agency. It comes one week after three other hostages' bodies were retrieved from Gaza. read more

Hunt for survivors of Majorca building collapse A desperate search for survivors is under way after a two-storey restaurant collapsed on the Spanish island of Majorca, killing four people and injuring 16, local emergency services say. Several people are believed to be trapped under rubble at the site of the Medusa Beach Club, a beachside restaurant in one of the busiest areas of the regional capital, Palma de Majorca. The building collapsed at about 20:30 local time (19:30 BST) on Thursday night. People fell into the basement below, where there were customers and staff. read more

Seven Palestinians killed in Israeli West Bank raid Seven Palestinians, including a doctor, have been killed by Israeli forces during an operation in Jenin in the north of the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry has said. Dr Aseed Jabareen, a 50-year-old surgeon at Jenin Government Hospital, was shot dead on his way to work, according to the ministry. Palestinian media also said a teenage boy was killed while riding a bicycle. read more

US confirms first aid trucks arrive via Gaza pier The US military has confirmed that the first aid shipment via a temporary pier off Gaza has gone ashore. US Central Command confirmed in a post on X that the aid trucks began moving ashore at about 09:00 local time (07:00 BST). "This is an ongoing, multinational effort to deliver additional aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza via a maritime corridor that is entirely humanitarian in nature," the post read, adding that no US troops went ashore. read more

French police kill man trying to 'burn synagogue' French police have killed an armed man who wanted to set fire to a synagogue in the north-western city of Rouen, France's interior minister has said. The man was armed with a knife and when he moved towards police they shot him, reports say. Rouen Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignaol said the attack on the synagogue did not just affect the Jewish community, but the entire city was "battered and in shock". Police were called at around 06:45 (05:45 GMT) after smoke was seen rising from the synagogue, according to local reports. read more

Suspect charged with attempted murder of Slovak PM Fico A man has been charged with the attempted murder of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico after the politician was seriously hurt in a shooting attack. The alleged assailant has not been formally named, but Slovak reports have widely identified him as a 71-year-old from the town of Levice. Reports say he could face up to life in prison. Mr Fico, 59, is in a serious but stable condition after being shot several times in what colleagues described as a politically motivated attack. read more

Slovakia PM Robert Fico in stable but serious condition after shooting, doctors say Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is in a stable but serious condition after being shot several times on Wednesday, according to doctors. The hospital director said he was currently in an intensive care unit after five hours in surgery. Earlier Mr Fico, 59, was said to have been fighting for his life after being gravely injured in an attack in the small town of Handlova. A suspect was detained at the scene of the shooting. read more

France prison van attack: Manhunt for escaped prisoner enters second day Hundreds of police officers have been deployed in Normandy in the search for Mohamed Amra, who escaped a police van transporting him to jail on Tuesday. Known as "The Fly", Amra was being transported back from a court hearing in Rouen when a car rammed the prison van at a toll booth. Armed men then opened fire on the vehicle, killing two prison officers. "All means are being used to find these criminals," French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said. read more

Reports in French media say an inmate who was being transported in the van has escaped together with the attackers. Vladimir Putin set to transfer Sergei Shoigu from Russian defence ministry Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to replace his long-standing ally Sergei Shoigu as defence minister, the Kremlin has announced. The 68-year-old has been in the role since 2012 and is to be appointed the head of Russia's Security Council. Papers published by the upper chamber of the Russian parliament said Mr Shoigu will be replaced by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov. US says Israel may have breached international law with American weapons in Gaza The US says Israel may have used American-supplied weapons in breach of international humanitarian law in some instances during the war in Gaza. It is "reasonable to assess" that those arms have been used in ways "inconsistent" with Israel's obligations, says the state department. But it added that the US did not have complete information in its assessment and that shipments could continue. The report was submitted to Congress on Friday after a delay. read more
