The court in Spain has decided to block Telegram throughout the country, as reported by the publication elDiario. Media platforms complained about the messenger, stating that Telegram illegally hosts their content. The judge ruled in their favour after the messenger failed to respond to the Spanish judiciary's request. All internet providers must comply with the decision to block Telegram. The publication believes this will happen by Monday. Telegram has around 8.5 million users in Spain, approximately 18% of the population. Consumer rights organisations are already talking about the "enormous damage" that this court decision could cause to "millions of users, as well as companies, organisations, government and private institutions that distribute content legally through their channels on this platform." US Military Uses AI For Air Strikes US Central Command confirmed the US military has been using computer vision algorithms in order to conduct air strikes in the Middle East. The machine learning algorithms were used in more than 85 air strikes conducted on Syria and Iraq on February 2. "We've been using computer vision to identify where there might be threats," US Central Command chief technology officer Schuyler Moore said. "We've certainly had more opportunities to target in the last 60 to 90 days." Moore said the targeting algorithms, which were developed using the Pentagon's Project Maven initiative that started in 2017, are being used to identify potential targets, but not to verify them or deploy weapons against them. "There is never an algorithm that’s just running, coming to a conclusion and then pushing onto the next step," Moore said. "Every step that involves AI has a human checking in at the end." The bill would give the Chinese owners five months to divest the video platform or see it banned in the US, which TikTok insisted infringes upon the First Amendment rights of Americans.
