📰 Apple will announce the 4th generation iPhone SE on February 11 👂 According to a report from Mark Gurman, the device will be similar to the iPhone 14 with Face ID, but will have a single camera, a USB-C port, an Apple A18 chip and support for Apple Intelligence. It will be the first device with a modem by Apple.

The iPhone SE 4 is unlikely to get a dedicated launch event. Instead, it is expected to be announced through a press release on Apple’s website. The company is also slated to introduce a pair of new Beats earbuds called PowerBeats Pro 2 on February 11, and the iPhone SE refresh might be announced around the same time.

🏭 M5 Apple silicon chip enters mass production 📰 South Korean media claims that Apple Silicon M5 chips are in mass production, which makes a lot of sense considering that the first devices that will use them are expected ship before the end of 2025. 🔎 The M5 chip will feature a new advanced technology to improve the performance of apple artificial intelligence functions, as well as an updated 3nm (N3P) process, which will improve efficiency and performance by 5-10%. 📲 The first Apple device to get the chip this year will be the new iPad Pro, followed by the MacBook Pro and Apple Vision Pro 2.

ℹ️ The M5 chip is expected to retain about the same architecture as the M1 through M4 chips, with the GPU and CPU on the same die. However, M5 Pro chip, which will begin fabrication later in the spring, will also reportedly use TSMC's SoIC-MH layout process, an advanced method of vertically stacking semiconductors that will further improve heat control and performance.

🇪🇺 Steve Jobs once said that people who want porn apps should “buy an Android” 🔞 Apple has expressed deep concern about the appearance of the first porn application for iOS called Hot Tub, available for download in the European Union through alternative app stores. This was stated by its spokesperson Peter Ajemian to The Verge.

We are deeply concerned about the safety risks that hardcore porn apps of this type create for EU users, especially kids. This app and others like it will undermine consumer trust and confidence in our ecosystem that we have worked for more than a decade to make the best in the world. Contrary to the false statements made by the marketplace developer, we certainly do not approve of this app and would never offer it in our App Store. The truth is that we are required by the European Commission to allow it to be distributed by marketplace operators like AltStore and Epic who may not share our concerns for user safety.

☁️ New iCloud feature codenamed 'Confetti' may to be launched soon ℹ️ Last month, iOS 18.3 code references to a potential new "Invites" app were discovered. The report said the app would have iCloud integration and help users to organize meetings and other events. 📰 Now Mark Gurman reports that the new service will offer users a "new way to invite people to parties, functions, and meetings." He did not say if this functionality would be available through a new standalone app, or built into an existing app, such as Calendar.

For years, Apple has been seeking to revamp its calendar app – and this new initiative could be the beginning of a broader effort. The release is tied to iOS 18.3, which just started rolling out last Monday.

📲 New Windows allows to use an iPhone from the Start Menu 💻 It was announced that now iPhone users can access their devices directly from the Start menu, bringing feature parity with its existing Android phone integration.

📱 iOS 18.3 for everyone 🔴 After one month of beta testing, Apple has now released iOS 18.3 for all iPhone users. As it was reported earlier the update includes changes to two key Apple Intelligence features. 🎛️ Apple Intelligence notification summary changes In response to pushback from BBC, Apple has made the following changes to notification summaries in iOS 18.3:

・Notification summaries have been temporarily disabled entirely for the News & Entertainment category of apps. Apple says the feature will be re-enabled for this category in a future software update as it continues to refine the experience. ・Notification summaries are now denoted by italicized text on the Lock Screen. This helps better distinguish them from normal notifications. ・You can now disable notification summaries for an app directly from the Lock Screen or Notification Center by swiping, tapping “Options,” then choosing the “Turn Off Summaries” option. ・When you enable notification summaries, iOS 18.3 will make it clearer that the feature – like all Apple Intelligence features – is a beta. ・In the Settings app, Apple now warns users that notification summaries “may contain errors.” 🔳 Visual Intelligence upgrades Apple says that the update brings two new features to Visual Intelligence for iPhone 16 users: ・You can now add an event to Calendar from a poster or flyer. From the Visual Intelligence interface, just take a picture of that poster or flyer and Apple Intelligence will recognize the date and time of the event and add it to your calendar. ・Visual Intelligence can now easily identify a broader range of plants and animals. The feature is available on all iPhone 16 models and can be accessed by long-pressing on the Camera Control.

To disable Apple Intelligence after updating to iOS 18.3, you can go to the Settings app, choose “Apple Intelligence & Siri,” then disable the Apple Intelligence toggle.

🤩 Colorado has started handing out free AirTags to prevent auto thefts 👮‍♀️ The police department in Arvada, Colorado, will try to reduce auto theft crimes by using AirTags and special stickers to warn that a vehicle is being tracked by police. The first free giveaway has already happened and at least one more is planned. 👍 All this is possible thanks to the Find My feature for AirTag with sending a tracking link to third parties. 🤩 The AirPods' cameras would not be for taking photos, but rather serve as infrared sensors 📰 Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, focused on Apple's future wearables ambitions, briefly mentioned the possibility of AirPods gaining tiny cameras. He did not explain what the cameras would be used for. ℹ️ In a June 2024 Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple planned to mass produce new AirPods with infrared cameras by 2026. He said the infrared camera component would be similar to the iPhone's Face ID receiver.
