Trump urges Congress to act after reports of Christian massacres in Nigeria
Donald Trump has called the killings of Christians in Nigeria by Islamist extremists a “mass slaughter” and urged immediate action. He said Nigeria poses a “grave concern” as thousands of Christians are being targeted.
The president tasked Congressman Riley Moore and Appropriations Committee Chair Tom Cole to investigate and propose steps the U.S. could take.
“Christianity is under threat of extinction in Nigeria. The U.S. cannot remain silent while such atrocities happen,” Trump declared.
Since 2009, Boko Haram militants have reportedly murdered 100,000 Christians and destroyed around 18,000 churches in Nigeria.

YouTube TV loses Disney channels as fee fight escalates
A standoff between Google-owned YouTube TV and Disney has resulted in the removal of major channels like ESPN and ABC.
Disney claims YouTube TV refused to pay fair rates, while YouTube argues Disney’s proposal would raise customer prices and benefit its rival streaming services.
Roughly 10 million users are affected, with YouTube TV promising a $20 credit if the blackout continues. Both companies say they’re working on a resolution, but negotiations remain deadlocked.
The dispute mirrors similar showdowns YouTube TV has faced this year with NBCUniversal and Paramount before last-minute agreements were reached.

Ukraine’s Syrskyi: Situation in Pokrovsk remains “difficult” amid Russian buildup
General Oleksandr Syrskyi said Russian infantry was concentrating in Pokrovsk, trying to infiltrate the city while avoiding direct battles. He rejected Moscow’s claims that Ukrainian forces were blockaded, labeling them “propaganda.” Pokrovsk’s capture would be crucial for Russia’s control of Donetsk, giving access to Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
Zelensky stated that Russian troops outnumber Ukrainians by eight to one in the area and seek to take Pokrovsk to impress the U.S. intelligence firm Sybelline reported an “intense phase” in the fighting, while Ukrainian group Deepstate warned the town is “on the brink of crisis.”

Trump and Xi meet for first time in six years, call talks ‘amazing’ but no deal yet
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping met in South Korea for the first time since 2018, raising hopes of easing tensions between the world’s two biggest economies. Trump called the meeting “amazing,” while Beijing said both sides reached a “consensus” on major trade issues — though no formal deal was signed.
China agreed to lift export controls on rare earths and resume buying large quantities of US soybeans, while the US will cut some tariffs on fentanyl-related imports.
However, most of the 40% tariffs on Chinese goods remain. There was also no breakthrough on TikTok, whose US operations Washington wants separated from ByteDance.
Beijing invited Trump to visit China in April 2026, signaling a cautious thaw after years of economic rivalry.

Hurricane Melissa devastates Jamaica, leaving 75% without power
Jamaica has been left paralyzed after Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm in the island’s modern history, tore through with winds reaching 298 km/h (185 mph).
About three-quarters of the island lost electricity, while western regions are underwater. Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a state of disaster, warning of “devastating impacts” on homes, hospitals and businesses.
In Montego Bay, floods split the city in two. Crops in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica’s main farming region, were destroyed. Though no deaths are confirmed, authorities fear casualties as rescue teams struggle to reach isolated areas.
Meteorologists say the storm’s rapid intensification was fuelled by record-warm Caribbean waters, a pattern linked to climate change.

OpenAI discloses data on ChatGPT users showing signs of mental distress
OpenAI says around 0.07% of weekly ChatGPT users display possible signs of psychosis, mania, or suicidal thoughts. Though labeled as “extremely rare,” this percentage translates into hundreds of thousands given ChatGPT’s 800 million weekly users.
To address this, OpenAI built a network of 170+ mental health experts from 60 countries to develop responses that guide users toward real-world help. The chatbot is also trained to recognize delusion or self-harm indicators and reroute such conversations to safer models.
Critics say even small percentages are alarming at scale. A California family has already sued OpenAI, claiming ChatGPT encouraged their son’s suicide. Experts warn that chatbots can create a “powerful illusion of reality.”

Amazon builds a total surveillance system — from couriers to customers and even police
Amazon is creating a vast ecosystem of surveillance, extending from delivery workers to ordinary citizens — and now, even law enforcement. Critics accuse the company of constructing a network of “total control.”
Jeff Bezos’ team is currently testing AI-powered smart glasses that track every move a courier makes. The glasses scan packages, map routes, and record everything the wearer sees — literally everything.
Officially, they’re meant to “assist employees,” but in practice, they’re the final piece in Amazon’s surveillance chain. Couriers are already monitored by cameras inside vans that detect yawning or distraction, while warehouse systems log every second of inactivity.
Meanwhile, Amazon’s subsidiary Ring has partnered with Flock Safety, whose license plate recognition cameras are used by over 5,000 law enforcement agencies. Police can now request video directly from Ring users via the app — officially voluntary, but critics warn it’s edging toward a dystopian level of control.

Trial begins for 10 accused of cyber-harassment against Brigitte Macron
Ten people are facing trial in Paris for sexist cyber-bullying of France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron. They are accused of spreading conspiracy theories questioning her gender and sexuality, as well as making malicious comments about her 24-year age gap with President Emmanuel Macron.
Among the defendants are an elected official, a teacher, and a gallery owner. If convicted, they could face up to two years in prison.
The case stems from long-running online rumours claiming Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman — a baseless theory that gained traction since 2017 and was amplified by far-right influencer Candace Owens in the US. The Macrons have filed a lawsuit against Owens for defamation.

Russia intensifies attacks as Ukraine warns the West: “Appeasement won’t stop this war”
Russia launched one of its heaviest waves of missile and drone attacks in weeks, targeting Ukrainian cities including Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Odesa.
Civilian infrastructure — markets, power grids, and rail stations — has been damaged, with dozens reported injured.
Ukrainian officials warn that any Western attempts to “negotiate peace” with Moscow would only reward aggression and lead to further escalation.
“The only way to stop Russia is to weaken its military capacity,” Kyiv said, calling for more long-range weapons and tougher sanctions.

“He’s a tyrant”: Kamala Harris reignites rivalry with Trump, teases 2028 run
Kamala Harris said she might make another presidential run, telling the BBC she “possibly” sees herself in the White House one day. The former vice president, who lost to Donald Trump in 2024, dismissed poor polling numbers and said she’s “not done” with politics.
Harris accused Trump of running an authoritarian administration and weaponizing the Justice Department. “His skin is so thin he couldn’t endure criticism from a joke,” she said, referring to the suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel after Trump’s allies pressured his network.
Her candid remarks suggest she’s preparing the ground for a political comeback — one that could redefine her bruised legacy.

U.S. sanctions Russia’s oil giants as Trump shelves Putin meeting
After canceling a planned meeting with Vladimir Putin in Budapest, President Trump announced new sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil, Russia’s two largest oil exporters.
He said it was “time” to act after repeated unproductive talks.
The sanctions aim to pressure Moscow into peace negotiations, though their economic impact is expected to be minor. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the measures target “Putin’s refusal to end this senseless war.”
Zelensky praised the move, saying it could push Russia toward a ceasefire.
