ቅዱስ ኒቆላዎስ ሊቅ St. Nicholas of Myra

And since he was contra to the heretics, he wrote many works. And because he rebuked even Emperor Justin in public, the Emperor [and later his successor Emperor Justinian as well] decided to kill him. ✞Nevertheless, when Empress Theodora (the wife of Justinian), whose faith was upright, heard this plot, she went to the scholar in the night and told the father, “Please flee.” However, the Saint responded with, “Death is an honor to me thus I will not take to flight.” Hence, she gathered the fathers and they pleaded him, “Please for the Church” and sent him to Egypt. ✞While he was on the move, his killers went after him.  And when they closed in on him on the road, he disappeared from them [as he was concealed by God]. He then went with them [hidden] for several days. And when they gave up and returned, he reached the land of Egypt. ✞And in the land of Egypt, he put away his bishopric attire and wore an old cloth of a monk and taught the people as well as the monks and consoled them. And he performed miracles in many places. ✞And when the elder monks knew who he was, they bowed down before him. And in the house of a kind person named Dorotheus, he passed away around the middle of the 6th century on Yekatit 14 (February 21). Today is the day on which the scholar’s relics were translocated. ✞✞✞Abba Yustos El Anthony – The Silent Monk✞✞✞ =>It has been 45 years since this righteous Egyptian father departed. (1910-1976 A.D) ✞The Righteous Father, beyond his admired silence, was known for his sudden question, “What time is it now?” ✞It is said that he was a close friend to the late Patriarch Abune Shenouda lll. ✞And it is told that Pope Shenouda had said about the Saint, “God rose Abba Yostos in the 20th century to show the lives of the 4th century saints vividly.” ✞As Egyptian’s are strong [in relation to the Saints]; they have compiled and organized the biography of Abba Yostos and even made it into a movie. ✞And we, on the other hand, have not woken up from our slumber to commemorate our holy fathers. ✞Though we have seen great fathers in our time that have kept the country with their prayers, a leadership and a generation is needed that will answer the questions, “Who shall write their biographies? Who shall sanction their stories? Who shall make their stories available for the people?” ✞✞✞May the God of the Saints awaken us from the sleep of idleness. And may the blessing of Abba Yostos indwell in us. Amen. ✞✞✞May the God of the Saints aid and forgive us. And the matter repeated itself 3 and 4 times.And on the 4th stage, the man gained his senses and hid himself and saw the person who was doing all this compassion for him. ✞He then run and fell down before the feet of St. Nicholas. Thereafter, he said,” My father! You took my soul out of the inferno”. The Saint then counseled the man, told him his secret and returned after instructing him not to speak to anyone about what had taken place. That man, after that day, became a kind Christian.  ✞And on another day, our Lord, our Lady and a holy angel descended and gave St. Nicholas presents. The angel gave him a throne, the Mother of Light gave him a clothing of light and the Lord granted him His Gospel. ✞Immediately after that, the fathers came to the desert where he dwelt and ordained him to become the Bishop of Myra. And because the era was the Era of Persecution, he strengthened the people of Myra for martyrdom and accomplished his responsibility. ✞However, when the accounts of his life reached the Emperors, they brought him for judgement. And for the sake of Christ, he was accused of preaching about Christ, was sentenced to torture and death. Thus, they took him to the arena of testimonies and lashed him in public, burned him and shed his blood. ✞Nonetheless, because God wanted him for a different vocation, he did not die. However, they tortured him in cruelty for years. And finally, they threw him into prison. And while he was in prison, the Era of Persecution came to a close and Constantine became Emperor. ✞And at that time, the faithful had their father released and placed him on his throne. And after leading the people for 13 years, when Arius renounced, he went to Nicaea. There, he was counted as one of the 318, and before the council, he revealed a miracle. ✞In Nicaea, with his companions, he denounced Arius, made rites, wrote books and returned to his country. And after spending 40 years on his see, he passed away and was buried on this day. ✞Nicholas means “one who wins over the people.” ✞✞✞Saint Surest✞✞✞ =>This holy mother was one of the renowned mothers that rose during the Era of the Righteous. Though she was raised in a palace, she inherited from her virtuous mother goodness. And while she was in a luxurious life, she did not forget Christ - her life. ✞Because her father was loved, she was betrothed to be a wife to the sons of the Emperors at the age of 12 years. It is true that shunning riches and honor is difficult for a person of advanced age, let alone for a person of a youthful age.    ✞However, St. Surest thought of an idea. And she went to her father and said, “Allow me to make a pilgrimage to salute different parishes before I am wed.” And when he responded with, “After your wedding” she replied, “I have made a vow to my Creator to salute His tomb while a virgin.” ✞Hence, her father sent her on her way with 300 dinars of gold to Jerusalem accompanied by many soldiers. There, that holy child after saluting/kissing the tomb of the Lord, escaped from the soldiers. Then, after that, no one knew where she was. However, Surest went from Jerusalem to Egypt and had a monastery built with the gold. ✞But she became a nun and entered the desert. There, she fought for 27 years without seeing anyone, in austerity, suffering and silence. ✞However, one day, a priest named Silas, who brought food for the hermits, found her and she told him her accounts and she departed after prostrating. He then buried her on this day at the age of 39 years. ✞✞✞ St. Severus the Great✞✞✞ =>St. Severus was a father that rose in the 6th century around Antioch in Syria. The period was when the Melkites/Melchites (Duophysites) had the upper hand [in rule] and the flight of Orthodox Miaphysites took place and [it was also an era when] their numbers were diminished. It was at this juncture that the great scholar St. Severus came forth by the will of God. The scholars [of the Church] call him a “lion”.✞The Saint had endured much for the Tewahedo (Miaphysite) Faith.

Amen!✞✞✞ ✞✞✞Saint Nicholas the Scholar✞✞✞ =>Saint Nicholas * was zealous to his faith, * was a scholar, who had an upright conduct, * was a martyr that received much tribulation, * was an apostle that converted many, * was a righteous that fought in the desert for years, * was a shepherd that served as a bishop, *and was one of the 318 Fathers. ✞He was born in the 3rd century and his place of origin was called Myra (Mora). Though we do not know where this place is exactly located (according to tradition), history tells us that it was part of the Roman Empire (now Demre, Turkey). The parents of St. Nicholas were good Christians of the time. ✞Though they lived following the laws and rites, partaking from the Holy Eucharist and by giving alms, they did not have a child. While they beseeched God, their youthful years passed and they became advanced in age. And they stopped asking for a child. And when they stopped pleading, God created this holy fruit in the womb of Yona (Tona). ✞And the Saint was born to the astonishment of his parents as they praised God. When he was born, their eyes witnessed a wonderful thing. When they cut the umbilical cord and bent to raise him, the Saint rose by himself and they heard him praise his Creator. ✞And for 2 hours they heard him praying a prayer, which they knew not of. It is obvious that a days old child doing such a thing is very astounding. Afterwards, the amazing things of the child, St. Nicholas, continued. ✞For example: If it was not 3 PM, on Wednesdays and Fridays, he did not suckle from his mother’s bosoms. And he always did not suckle from his mother’s left breast. And he at all times suckled only from her right breast.    ✞And in such manner, St. Nicholas grew. And when he was youthful, his elderly parents left him much riches, 400 gold dinars and the like, and they passed away. Nevertheless, he left everything and entered into the desert at the age of 16 years.   ✞And there, the fathers that saw him fast, pray and prostrate, used to be amazed. That was because he was fast like a wheel when he worked, followed orders or prostrated. It is truly unbelievable that he did this in his child’s physique. And because he completed the upright teachings of the faith speedily, he was ordained a priest just at 19 years.   ✞After he was ordained a priest, he expanded his strife and service. And making the monastery his starting place, he used to cover many areas by preaching. And in his evangelic mission, he used to perform many miracles. Particularly on one day, he has fed the people of an area miraculously as his Creator by blessing a small portion of bread that they had.   ✞And a great amount of the leftover was removed in baskets. (John 6:5) As our Lord had said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also” (John 14:12). The Saint healed the sick and raised the dead for years as well.  ✞One day, while he was in his cell, he knew that one previously affluent man and 4 of his daughters were to lose their lives. And the reason was because Satan had whispered to this rich man who had lost his wealth and had become a destitute to do wicked deeds, who lived in the city around the Saint.  The man prepared 4 houses for his 4 daughters and readied to sell them for prostitution.  ✞And St. Nicholas that knew this by grace, thought “Aid is comes prior to reproving” and without being seen in the night, took 100 dinars of the 400 that his parents left him and dropped it at the door of the man and hid. And the man amazed, stopped his sinful thought. ✞Again the Saint knew that the idle man after completing the money was about to do the same thing yet again. For a second time, hiding himself, he dropped for him a 100 more dinars.

✝" ታኅሣሥ 10 " <<< እንኩዋን ለቅዱሳን ሊቃውንት "አባ ኒቆላዎስ" : "አባ ሳዊሮስ" እና "ቅድስት ሱርስት" ዓመታዊ በዓል በሰላም አደረሳችሁ >>> +*" ቅዱስ ኒቆላዎስ ሊቅ "*+ =>ቅዱስ ኒቆላዎስ:- *ሃይማኖቱ የቀና:: *ምግባሩ የጸና ሊቅ:: *ብዙ መከራን የተቀበለ ሰማዕት:: *ብዙዎችን ያሳመነ ሐዋርያ:: *በበርሐ ለዘመናት የተጋደለ ጻድቅ:: *በዽዽስና ያገለገለ እረኛ እና: *ከ318ቱ ሊቃውንት አንዱ ነው:: +የተወለደው በ3ኛው መቶ ክ/ዘመን ሲሆን ሃገሩ ሜራ ትባላለች:: ይህች ሃገር ዛሬ የት እንዳለች ማወቅ ባንችልም ታሪክ ግን የቀድሞዋ ሮም ግዛት እንደ ነበረች ይነግረናል:: የቅዱስ ኒቆላዎስ ወላጆች የዘመኑ ጥሩ ክርስቲያኖች ነበሩ:: +በሕጉ: በሥርዓቱ: በሥጋ ወደሙና በምጽዋት ቢኖሩም ልጅ አልነበራቸውም:: እግዚአብሔርን ሲለምኑ የጉብዝናቸው ዘመን አልፎ አረጁ:: ልጅ መጠየቁንም ተውት:: ልክ እነሱ መጠየቁን ሲያቆሙ ግን እግዚአብሔር ይሕንን ቅዱስ ፍሬ በዮና ማሕጸን ላይ ፈጠረ:: +እነርሱም ተገርመው ፈጣሪን እያመሰገኑ ተወለደ:: እንደ ተወለደ ግን ዓይናቸው ድንቅ ነገርን ተመለከቱ:: አትበው ሊያነሱት ሲጐነበሱ በራሱ ጊዜ ብደግ ብሎ ፈጣሪውን ሲያመሰግን ሰሙት:: +ለ2 ሰዓት ያሕልም ምንነቱን ያላወቁትን ጸሎት ሲያደርስ ቆየ:: መቼም የዕለት ሕጻን ይሕንን ማድረጉ እጅግ ድንቅ ነው:: ከዚህ በሁዋላም የሕጻኑ ቅዱስ ኒቆላዎስ አስገራሚ ነገሮቹ ቀጠሉ:: +ለምሳሌ:- በአጽዋማት: በረቡዕና በዓርብ ዕለታት 9 ሰዓት ካልሆነ የእናቱን ጡት አይጠባም:: ሁሌም ደግሞ የፈለገውን ያህል ቢፈስ የእናቱን የግራ ጡት አይጠባም ነበር:: ሁሌም የሚጠባው በስተቀኝ ያለውን ጡቷን ብቻ ነበር እንጂ:: +እንዲህ እንዲህ እያለ ቅዱስ ኒቆላዎስ አደገ:: እርሱ ወጣት በሆነ ጊዜ አረጋውያን ወላጆቹ ብዙ ሃብት: 400 የወርቅ ዲናርና የመሳሰለውን ትተውለት ዐረፉ:: እርሱ ግን ሁሉንም ትቶት በ16 ዓመቱ በርሃ ገባ:: +በዚያ ሲጾም: ሲጸልይ: ሲሰግድ ያዩ አበው ሁሉ ይገረሙ ነበር:: ሲሠራም: ሲታዘዝም: ሲሰግድም እንደ መንኮራኩር ፈጣን ነበርና:: በሕጻን ገላው ይሕንን ማድረጉ በእርግጥ ይደነቃል:: የቀናውን የሃይማኖት ትምሕርትንም ቶሎ በማጠናቀቁ ገና በ19 ዓመቱ ቀሲስ አድርገው ሾሙት:: +ቅስናን ከተሾመ በሁዋላ ተጋድሎውንም: አገልግሎቱንም አስፋፋ:: ካለበት ገዳም እየተነሳ ብዙ አካባቢዎችን በስብከት ያደርስ ነበር:: በወንጌል አገልግሎቱ ጊዜም ብዙ ተአምራትን ሲሠራ በተለይ በአንድ ቀን የአንድን አካባቢ ሕዝብ ጥቂት ሕብስትን እንደ ፈጣሪው አበርክቶ አብልቷል:: +የተረፈውም ብዙ መሶብ ተነስቷል:: (ዮሐ. 6:5) ጌታችን "በእኔ የሚያምን እኔ የምሠራውን እርሱ ደግሞ ይሠራል" ብሏልና:: (ዮሐ. 14:12) በተረፈም ፈዋሴ ዱያን: መንስኤ ሙታን ሆኖ ዘመናትን አሳልፏል:: +አንድ ቀን ግን በበአቱ እያለ የአንድ ሰውና የ4 ሴት ልጆቹ ነፍስ ሊጠፋ መሆኑ ይታወቀዋል:: ይሔውም በአቅራቢያው ባለ ከተማ የሚኖር አንድ ባለ ጠጋ ሃብቱ አልቆበት ተቸግሯልና ሰይጣን ክፉን እንዲሠራ ሹክ አለው:: ሰውየውም ለ4 ሴት ልጆቹ 4 ቤት አሰናድቶ በዝሙት ሊሸጣቸው ተዘጋጀ:: +ይሕንን በጸጋ ያወቀው ቅዱስ ኒቆላዎስ "ከመገስጽ መርዳት ይቀድማል" ብሎ: ማንም ሳያየው ወላጆቹ ከተውለት 400 የወርቅ ዲናር 100ውን ከፍሎ በሌሊት ከሰውየው በር ላይ ጥሎለት ተሰወረ:: ሰውየውም ተገርሞ የኃጢአት ሃሳቡን ተወ:: +ያ ሥራ ፈት ሰው ግን እንደ ገና ገንዘቡን በልቶ ተመሳሳይ ድርጊት ሊፈጽም ማሰቡን ቅዱሱ አወቀ:: አሁንም ተደብቆ 100 የወርቅ ዲናር ጣለለት:: ይህ ነገር 3ኛና 4ኛም ተደገመ:: በ4ኛው ግን ሰውየው ወደ ልቡናው ተመልሶ ይሕንን ያሕል ቸርነት የሚያደርግለትን ሰው ተደብቆ አየው:: +ሩጦም ሒዶ ከቅዱስ ኒቆላዎስ እግር ላይ ወደቀ:: "አባቴ! ነፍሴን ከእሳት አወጣሃት" አለው:: ቅዱሱም መልሶ መክሮ: ምሥጢሩን ግን ለማንም እንዳይናገር አሳስቦት ተመለሰ:: ያ ሰው ከዚያ በሁዋላ በጐ ክርስቲያን መሆን ችሏል:: +ለቅዱስ ኒቆላዎስ ግን አንድ ቀን ጌታችን: እመቤታችን: ቅዱስ መልአክ መጥተው ስጦታን አበረከቱለት:: መልአኩ ዙፋን: እመ ብርሃን የክብር ልብስን ሲሰጡት ጌታ ደግሞ ወንጌሉን ሰጠው:: +ወዲያውም አበው ካለበት በርሃ መጥተው የሜራ ዻዻስ እንዲሆን ሾሙት:: የተሾመበት ጊዜ ዘመነ ሰማዕታት ነበርና የሜራን ሕዝብ አጽንቶ ለሰማዕትነት በማብቃት ትልቁ ሃላፊነትም ተወጥቷል:: +ነገር ግን ዜና ሕይወቱ በነገሥታቱ ዘንድ ሲሰማ ለፍርድ አቀረቡት:: ስለ ክርስቶስ ሰብከሃል በሚል ስቃይና ሞት ተፈረደበት:: ወደ አውደ ስምዕ (የሰማዕታት አደባባይ) ወስደው ገረፉት: በእሳት አቃጠሉት: ደሙንም አፈሰሱት:: +ነገር ግን እግዚአብሔር ለሌላ ሙያ ይፈልገዋልና አልሞተም:: እነርሱ ግን በጭካኔ ለዘመናት አሰቃዩት:: በመጨረሻም እስር ቤት ውስጥ ጣሉት:: እርሱ በእስር ቤት ሳለም ዘመነ ሰማዕታት ተፈጸመ:: ቆስጠንጢኖስ ነገሠ:: +በዚህ ጊዜም ምዕመናን ቅዱስ አባታቸውን ከእስር ፈትተው በመንበሩ ላይ አኖሩት:: ለ13 ዓመታት ሕዝቡን ሲመራ ቆይቶ አርዮስ በካደ ጊዜ ወደ ኒቅያ አመራ:: በዚያም ለቅዱሳን ሊቃውንት 318ኛ ሆኖ ተቆጠረ:: በጉባኤው ፊትም ተአምራትን አሳየ:: +በኒቅያ ከባልንጀሮቹ ጋር አርዮስን አውግዞ: ሥርዓትን ሠርቶ: መጻሕፍትን ጽፎም ወደ ሃገሩ ተመልሷል:: በመንበሩ ላይ 40 ዓመታት ሲሞሉትም ዐርፎ በዚህች ቀን ተቀብሯል:: <<ኒቆላዎስ ማለት "መዋኤ ሕዝብ - ሕዝብን የሚያሸንፍ" ማለት ነው>> +"+ ቅድስት ሱርስት +"+ =>ይህቺ ቅድስት እናት በዘመነ ጻድቃን ከተነሱ ስመ ጥር እናቶች አንዷ ናት:: ገና ከልጅነቷ በቤተ መንግስት ውስጥ ብታድግም ከመልካም እናቷ መልካምነትን ወርሳለች:: እጅግ በተቀማጠለ ኑሮ ውስጥ ሆና ሕይወቷን ክርስቶስን አልዘነጋችውም:: +ደም ግባቷ እጅግ የተወደደ ነበርና ገና በ12 ዓመቷ ለነገሥታቱ ልጆች ሚስት ትሆን ዘንድ ታጨች:: መቼም ሃብትን: ክብርን እንኩዋን እንዲህ በለጋ እድሜ አርጅተንም ቢሆን መናቁ አይሳካም:: +ቅድስት ሱርስት ግን አንድ ቅን ሃሳብ መጣላት:: ወደ አባቷ ዘንድ ሔዳም "ወደ አድባራት ሔጄ ከሠርጌ በፊት እንድሳለም ፍቀድልኝ" ስትል ጠየቀችው:: እርሱ ግን "ከሠርግሽ በሁዋላ ይደርሳል" ቢላት "በድንግልናየ ሳለሁ መቃብርህን እስማለሁ ብዬኮ ለፈጣሪየ ተስያለሁ" አለችው:: +አባቷም ከ300 ዲናር ወርቅና ከብዙ ሠራዊት ጋር ወደ ኢየሩሳሌም ላካት:: ቅድስቷ ሕጻንም በዚያ የጌታን መቃብር ተሳልማ ወታደሮችን ጠፋቻቸው:: ከዚያ በሁዋላ የት እንደ ደረሰች ያወቀ የለም:: ሱርስት ግን ከኢየሩሳሌም ግብጽ ወርዳ ወርቁ ገዳም እንዲታነጽበት አደረገች:: +እርሷ ግን መንኩሳ ወደ በርሃው ገባች:: በዚያም 27 ዓመት ሙሉ ማንንም ሳታይ: በጭንቅ: በመከራ: በአርምሞ ተጋደለች:: አንድ ቀን ግን ባሕታውያንን የሚመግብ ሲላስ የሚሉት ካህን አግኝቶ ዜናዋን ከነገረችው በሁዋላ ሰግዳ ዐርፋለች:: በ39 ዓመቷም በዚህች ቀን ቀብሯታል::

✞And when he heard the matter, he was jubilant because he knew that shedding their blood and receiving affliction for the sake of Christ was better than everything else. Then, he decided to go to the city and shed his blood as well and went.✞There, the soldiers of the Emperor found him and ordered him to sacrifice an offering to the idols. But St. Poemin replied with, “Offerings must be made to our Lord Jesus Christ, to His hypostatic Father and the Holy Spirit only. I will not sacrifice to a creature.” And for this reason, the soldiers took turns and beat him up. ✞They shed his blood. However, when they noticed that he did change his mind, they threw him into prison. Thereafter, they used to take him out daily and beat, burn, torture him with different means and afflict him. However, he answered them with nothing except praising Christ. ✞After they tortured him much and still he said no, they locked him in a dark room. There, he was left for years. Nonetheless, God, Who does things in the proper period, passed those years of persecution and put an end to Diocletian and Maximian. ✞And in their place, He enthroned St. Constantine who loved Christian. Thus, churches were built and those imprisoned for the sake of Christ were released.  And at that moment, the faithful came and took up St. Poemin from where he was laid. ✞And at the time, because the Emperor St. Constantine had said, “Gather the bodies/relics of the martyrs, and bring me those who have passed through the tribulation that are able to come”, 72 honored people that were like St. Poemin were found.  And the Great Abba Nob (Abanoub) and Abba Zechariah were amongst them. ✞After these fathers blessed the Saintly Emperor and returned, St. Poemin went to Ashmunein and settled at his cell. There, his disciples increased, he continued in his ascetic life and performed many miracles. ✞He healed the sick and removed heretics from the area with his prayers. One day, he heard that the Empress had come to him. And his disciples after entering his cell told him, “Father! The Empress wants [to talk to] you.” ✞However, he replied, “What do I have with an earthly Empress! I will not go out.” Yet, when the disciples stated, “Father! Have compassion upon her, she is in infirmity” he said, “Okay” and went out. ✞The Empress, though she had many soldiers as attendants, she walked bent because of her ill bowls. And when he approached her and whispered the matter behind her illness, she fell to his feet amazed and beseeched him. The matter was as follows. ✞15 years prior, one blessed deacon used to live near the palace. And he, who was called John, used to read to her the Apocalypse of John (Revelations) while he stood. And the Emperor’s servants that were jealous accused the deacon to the Emperor falsely saying, “The deacon is having an affair with your wife”. ✞And the Emperor, who thought the matter was true, ordered his soldiers to drawn John at sea. And the Empress, who heard this, wept for days and her internal organs were damaged and she became ill. Slowly, her abdomen bended. And for 15 years, she wandered as she had not found anyone that could heal her. ✞Later on, when people told her the sanctity of St. Poemin, she came to him. And that was why St. Poemin whispered to her the secret. Then, he performed for her 2 kind things. Firstly, after he prayed, when he kneaded her stomach, she immediately healed and stood straight.   ✞Secondly, he told her, “That blessed deacon, John, is not dead. Angels took him out of the sea and have placed him on an island called such and such.” And after she returned, she told the matter jubilantly to her husband. ✞And the Emperor in compunction brought John back from where he was. The fathers then appointed him Archbishop of Rome and he exegeted many texts. St. Poemin, on the other hand, lived in holiness and departed on this day. And he was buried with chants. ✞✞✞May the God of St. Poemin have mercy on us through his prayers. And may He grant us from his patience and let us partake from his blessing.
